Question rebooting games
« on: October 03, 2017, 02:16 PM »
Hello i recently got an Sd2snes and applied the latest firmware.

My snes is a super famicom 1-chip version 3 with the superCIC mod installed.
The snes worked perfectly so i'm thinking it's an sd2snes problem.

My problem : Eye of the beholder reboots when trying to create a new party, it reboots the game, not the sd2snes menu itself. I tried deactivating all the hooks and supercic (in the menu) but the game still reboots.

I have the same problem with a rom used to test your gamepad controls. I can do the first few steps normally but after a moment i have to press diagonally down and the rom reboots.

I haven't tried all games yet but i keep thinking it might be due to sd2snes ?
Also when testing the snes with a rom to test electronic circuitry it fails the test. Might that be due to the super CIC mod ?

The roms i used all come from the everdrive pack posted by Smokemonster.

Hope to hear from some of you :)

I bought it from Retrogate in Cyprus, but it was sent from the Ukraine.

Ok i have partially found the problem.

I have two snesses, one super famicom and one PAL both have the superCIC mod.
When i tried the same sd2snes cardridge and sdcard on the PAL console everything worked perfectly.

When i tried the super famicom again it crashed/rebooted again on a few roms.

I'm starting to think its the gamepad i use (i only have one). I use a PAL snes controller on the super famicom and i never experienced problems before. But testing the controller pad on the PAL snes works perfectly and since the game(s) reboot when i usually press down on the pad ...
Needless to say the PAL gamepad worked perfectly on the PAL console, but when testing it with the snes test rom on the super famicom it crashes.

Can anyone confirm that gamepads might not be 100% compatible ?

Thnaks.

thanks all for the responses.

I tested on my PAL console with the SD2snes and my PAL gamepad and i had no issues.
When i tried again on my NTSC super Famicom with my PAL controller and with another flashcart (super UFO 8) i had the same problems.

So it's not sd2snes related, it's probably my controller that is not 100% compatible.

Does your Super Famicom have an IGR mod installed along with the SuperCIC?
Earlier versions of the IGR (read: anything but borti4938's uIGR) can get confused when a game reads the controller manually very quickly, and react upon button combinations when they shouldn't (e.g. reset the game).
I haven't had a chance to check it yet but that might just be the case with Eye of the Beholder.

SNES has some compatibility issues between different zones. See :

I don't think that's the problem. The controller region lock doesn't reset the SNES, it just prevents the controller from working. And you turned off in-game hooks so it shouldn't be possible to reset it via the SD2SNES either.

Why yes it has the IGR mod as well.

I bought it a few years ago so that might indeed be the issue then ?
I am slowly going over each game that interests me thanks to the sd2snes, but most of them work without issue.

Only Eye of the beholder and the gamepad test roms seem to have the issue at the present.

Does that mean changing the controller to an original Super famicom pad will not change anything ?

Probably not but might be worth a shot in case I'm wrong about the cause of the error.

If you want the best IGR compatibility possible, I'd recommend switching to the PIC16F684 based uIGR by borti4938 if it's feasible:
