Did my N64 die ?

I played with my N64 for about six months before I had to put it back in the box to move out. I decided to take it out again after moving about two weeks ago and it doesn't turn on anymore (no red light). I tried everything:

  • Switching between the Expansion and Jumper Paks
  • Using a SCART adapter instead of plugging the composite cables in directly
  • Opening up my ED64 to see if somehow got damaged while i was moving everything (doesn't seem to be the case)
  • Reseated the PSU
  • Power-cycling the machine
  • Trying different TVs and outlets
  • Opening both the machine and the PSU to look inside (doesn't seem to be any damage but i couldn't remove the huge metal shielding in the unit)

One thing to note is that sometimes (albeit rarely, happened 4-5 times total) the red light turns on for 2 seconds before turning off again.

Should I just buy another psu ? (3rd party or original on ebay ?) The system worked perfectly during those 6 months.

Always buy an original psu... in fact it is always probably cheaper to buy an n64 with a psu! Win win... at least that way you have a backup regardless!

Not here. N64s go for 50-100€, original PSUs for 10-20€.

Obviously the Everdrive isn't the problem, it's either the console or power supply.
Do you have access to a multimeter?
Plug the power supply to the mains socket but not to the console and check the voltage between one of the minus pins and the 3.3V or 12V pins.

It could be easier if you open up the power supply to access the output pins, but you must be VERY CAREFUL.

I don't but I'll get one ASAP. And I wasn't trying to blame the Everdrive, I just thought I'd ask here since people seem to have more experience with N64s than say, people on Reddit.

Alright, I got one. What do I have to set my multimeter to ?

Set your multimeter to 20 V and plug the probes to the middle and right socket.
Again, if you're going to open up your power supply be very careful.

My probes didn't reach into the sockets so I cut a paperclip in half and straightened both pieces.

I stuck one into the ground socket and one in a 3.3v socket and got 3.52v. Unplugged it and waited for the psu to discharge then tested the other 3.3v socket and got 3.52v again
Did the same thing and tested the 12v one and got 11v (or 11.1, can't remember)

Nope.. I'll try giving the n64 a good clean but I doubt it'll do anything. If it doesn't work I'll get a pre-rgb modded one I guess.
