Black screen aftear beating a boss in Megaman X (MSU-1)
« on: March 23, 2018, 05:24 PM »
Hey guys, a new SD2SNES user here.

I want to check if this is a common problem or just my cartridge. I`ve been playing some MSU1 games without problems (super castlevania for example) but i have issues with the megaman x MSU1 version. The first stage is ok, also when i select one of the robots no problem so far, but when i beat one of the bosses (any of them) the screen goes black and it freezes forever...

is this a common error? i got the rom already patched, so maybe this happens when is badly done.

Hope you guys can give me some light here, thanks!!!

Does it work with the vanilla ROM without any patches?

Update:

I tried manually patching this time. The hack includes 2 ips files, one for the sd2snes and another one for emulators, obviously i used the sd2snes patch.

Still a black screen  :P , any idead?

The different patches are only because of the old volume differences between emulators and SD2SNES revisions, so there's specific PCM packs to use with a particular patch. They're obsolete at this stage because the volume of all "modern" MSU1 hacks have been normalised (which equates to the emulator patch, and the SD2SNES firmware can boost audio levels for the older Rev. F boards).

I know you mentioned the No-Intro set (forget the Good set), but are you sure you're using a headerless v1.1 ROM as the base before applying the MSU1 patch?

I believe the idea of the No-intro romset is to only contain "the best version of the roms", so i think it contains the last version headerless, is there a way to check it?

Yeah, No-Intro ROMs are headerless as standard. Usually the file extension gives it away, as well. No-Intro are .sfc files and the other headered sets are usually .smc files. Just have to check and make sure.

But I'm pretty sure your problem stems from the fact that you patched a v1.0 ROM. The patch requires you to use the v1.1 ROM.

Hey I just saw this post, and the same thing just happened to me. I played through Chill Penguin. Defeated him, music plays, I teleport away, screen fades to black, then nothing.

I'm using a No-Intro romset.

I'll try the patch on the v1.1 version of MMX, and report back.

EDIT: Confirmed, v1.1 or Rev 1 of Megaman X is what needs to be patched. As soon as I defeated Chill Penguin it went right to the "You Got" weapon screen. :-)
