we all know how the everdrive has progressed rapidly, we have saturnuu great work which is the ALT64 v0.1.8.6 which is a great OS ideal for v1 everdrive owners! with built in game shark and various emulators, more info on this can be found on this thread

http://krikzz.com/forum/index.php?topic=816.0

also krikzz has worked on his everdrive 64 and presented us with OS v2.04 which sadly doesnt support everdrive v1 boards :( however, if your like me aint not really feeling the need for game shark there is... OS 1.29 its basic, simple to use and i think its the best!

how to successfully set up your SD card for OFFICIAL OS 1.29

step 1

get yourself a freshly formatted fat 32 SDHC card, use windows standard formatting, SD formatting programs are not recommended (i use 8GB sandisk extreme SDHC)

step 2

make a ED64 folder on your SDHC card and inside that folder make a SAVE folder (this is very important)

step 3

download the OFFICIAL OS 1.29

http://krikzz.com/pub/support/ed64/os-bin/1.29/OS64.v64

and put that inside the ED64 folder

step 4

make a folder of any name you wish for your roms best to keep this folder outside the ED64 folder i also suggest making sub-folders inside that aswell for example...

beat em ups
platformers
racing

or

alphabetical folders A-Z

everything should work perfect for you, happy gaming :)

Thanks for the write-up.  I just ordered my ED64, and I set my SD card up already using this.  Love these devices!  This will be my fourth one, as I already own the Turbo, SNES, and NES ED's.  :)

Just got my ED64 in today, popped in my prepared SD card, and I am loving this.  I also like the ability to change the wallpaper.  :)  I do see an issue with the picture getting grainy during cinemas and stuff, but I believe that is the fault of the AV cable I am using.  I bought an elcheapo made in China cable....guess you get what you pay for.  Just ordered a proper one.

The ED64 doesn't alter/influence the video output in anyway, the TV picture is down to the TV, the N64's TV output, and the lead between the N64 and TV. Sadly the N64 isn't too great with modern TVs, since it's such low resolution, NTSC and some PAL N64s can be modded for RGB or whatever output, but the others (i.e. British PAL N64) can't be.

Yeah, I kinda figured it wasnt the fault of the ED64.  I have played N64 on this LCD before, and it looked great, so I am positive its the cheap ass cable I bought.  Ive since ordered a stock one.  :)

Can we make this thread a "sticky" since there's no manual for N64?

I just got mine and this is a big help.

As far as I know, the only advantages of 1.29 over 2.x are;

1) 1.29 works on v1 Everdrives, but 2.x is for the v2 Everdrive only,

and

2) 1.29 has a favourites feature (I am hoping that KRIKzz adds this to 2.x).

I think (could be wrong) that maybe there are some games that have problems in 2.x but not 1.29, which is why KRIKzz is awaiting bug reports for 2.x. Every game I've tried worked great in 2.x, though.

This guide should be re-sticky'd!

Though Step 3 should be altered to say that OS 2.04 should be used for v2 Everdrives, and v1.29 for V1 Everdrives, with mention of Saturnuu's Alternative OS and it's differences to the official OSes.

That would be helpful.
I still dont know what OS I want to use. Waiting for it in the mail so pimping the sd card till then. Is the official more stable? Not sure the differences except a few things like Saturnuu has boxart added. The problem when I think about it is that krikzz OS has less info then Saturnuu's so hard to compare. Unless I missed something. Will prob just try both then.
