Hopefully this isn't a dumb question, but I tried OS-16 and it won't even run, I just get a light blue screen.  So now I'm trying v20, and there's all these links.  There's only 15-17 mapper files as part of this, so are we supposed to retain the ones from v16?

Use RC7 if you don't care about MMC3/Mapper 4 being broken, otherwise use RC6. All the mappers from previous updates should be there AFAIK.

They're not, that was my question.  Most of the ZIP files only seem to have the mapper files that were modified or added.  I kept what I had from V16, but as I said, it should be explained better.

Soooo...  this is kinda confusing.  Earlier it was discussed and said that some N8 wouldn't be able to use the new OS, v20, due to the OS Init freeze.  If I use the N8 on my Analogue NT Mini, v20 rc4-7, it loads fine.  Using it on an original NES gives me the OS Init freeze.

The OG NES works fine with v16.

Where was this discussed? Krikzz hasn't posted in this topic for a while. Krikzz, any updates on what is happening with OS v20?

I'll have to find it.  Something along the lines of not being able to recreate the issue so we'll have to stick with v16 for now.
edit:  never mind on that, issue was i/o error.

That being said, I'm still not able to use the v20 any rc, with N8 plus original front loader nes.  It works fine with the NT Mini.  I've tried on the suggestions for possible fragmentation, and used several brand new never used sd cards with fat, fat32.  No go so far.

I am also confused by this. The official stable v16 release has 25 mapper files in tha MAPS directory. While the v20 betas and RCs all have 16 mapper files or less. Are we supposed to keep the other mappers from the stable build? Or are there less because the others are hard coded into the OS?

The only mention was that for some systems like NT's, there was artifacting.  Otherwise I think v20 is fine and certainly won't damage anything.

So like I said, I kept what I had for v16, and overwrote any file that came with v20, and all seems well I guess.  However, you would I assume require those "untouched" mapper files.

I did a reformat before changing OS and the extra chip files were fine. Some mappers were combined into a file for other similar mappers making it so some custom mappers weren't as easy to get working.

Krikzz, any news on the current status of RC20? There was a mention of the issues with Mapper 99 earlier in the thread (still not fixed as of RC7) and the IO errors seem to only affect some systems (top loading NES with FC style N8 and the Stone Age Gamer FC to NES adapter).

I have mixed results with the latest V20 firmware using my Hi-Def NES front loader. Any MMC3 games I play will freeze up within a few minutes of playing and sometimes there are graphical glitches as well. Changing the despeckle options can resolve the glitches, but the crashing is still present. I have tried on 2 different  NES front loaders both with the Hi Def kit installed. One with Rev G and one with Rev E PPU/CPU. I have tried this firmware on multiple SD cards and each time was a clean formatted card. On a side note, I tried the RC20 betas and RC versions on 2 different top loaders modded with the Hi Def NES kit, both using Rev G PPU/CPU and didn't experience any problems. No glitching or crashes. When using on stock and RGB modded consoles these issues weren't present either. Just thought I would throw this out there to see if anyone else has the same issues with front loaders while using V20 and the Hi Def kit.

Hmm, I wanted to try mapper 228 (the action 52 mapper)

I've tried RC1 and RC7 But when I tried to load the game it says mapper not supported.  When I go to rom info it correctly says mapper 228 but the last line says Not Supported.

Device info also correctly states V20

Is there a setting or file I have to edit to enable support of these beta mappers?

Are you using the split up ROM that was created for Action 52? An original ROM won't work due to the limitations of the N8's hardware. I used RC6 and the split up ROM and it worked for me.
