FPS of NTSC games on PAL console
« on: November 04, 2018, 12:13 PM »
Hi,

I've bought a RGB modded PAL N64.

If I buy an Everdrive N64 V3 will it run NTSC roms at the correct speed? So will Super Mario 64 NTSC rom run at 30FPS on my PAL system?

I've also read that the cart has a small switch. If I switch it to NTSC mode will it still bypass the region lock?

My TV should handle 50 and 60Hz just fine by the way.

Regards

Yes, NTSC Super Mario 64 will work at 60Hz on your PAL console.

To use Everdrive N64 V3 on your PAL console you need to put the small switch in PAL position, no matter what games you want to play (PAL or NTSC).

Thank you. What about the black bars? Is that determined by the console video output?

Black bars are determined by the game programmers. Some programmers were too lazy to adopt NTSC games to the higher PAL resolution and instead filled the remaining pixels with black bars.

You won't see any black bars when running NTSC games on your PAL console as games are output in PAL60 which happens to have the same resolution and refresh rate as NTSC.

You guys are awesome. I couldn't find this anywhere in the product information. Maybe include this information in the FAQ... But I guess this isn't asked frequently then.  :o
