I should probably test on my other SNES.  I think the one I was using is a 1-CHIP original-style model, and my other one is an older 3-CHIP.

I redownloaded F-zero and now everything syncs perfectly. This is really weird since it's always worked perfect for me with the same rom for years, and I was using the smoke monster romset, maybe rom corruption?.

Anyhoo, it's fixed now.

I've got a cheap USB stick that I use in my vehicle that has files occasionally get corrupted, so I could see it happening.  Glad it's working for you again!
