Disk IO Error 62/63/65

I'm only getting the errors on AVS set to PAL (and only on the latest AVS firmware) and the top loading NES using a FC to NES adapter. I couldn't get the FC everdrive to fit with an adapter in my toaster NES.

Yup, I have this error on my AV Famicom while scrolling the menu with the v20 RC7. The V16 worked fine.

I'm still having the same errors with RC4. I haven't tried RC6 yet but I'm willing to bet it won't fix the problem either. I guess it's my hardware, I'm using a Front Loader with the Hi Def NES mod installed (later purple colored PCB model with upgraded HDMI port). Guess I will stick with V16.

I've owned my N8 and AVS USB for a couple years now, most of which (sadly), it's been sitting unused in a cabinet. I decided to fire them up last night and got the Disk IO Error 63. Nothing in my setup has changed. Same SD card. Same OS. AVS works fine (I tested it with an NES cart). I've since tried two other SD cards, formatting everything in between each attempt. Nothing works. I've run the self-test and everything comes back as OK. Sometimes it says "Reset to default" before kicking back the 63 error.

I'm at my wit's end. Has anyone ever had this happen to them after not using the N8 for this long? It's been inserted into the AVS this whole time, if that makes a difference. I tried swapping the battery but that didn't work (though it wasn't a fresh battery).

Try cleaning the cartridge contacts.

Dumb question, but what’s the best way to clean the contacts on the ED cart?

Clean the contacts using Isopropyl alcohol, or if you can electric contact cleaner.

Thanks very much for helping me out here. I used 70% isopropyl alcohol and saw some dirt come off one side of the ED contacts. But when I tried it in my AVS I got the same error. It’s super frustrating. I feel like I’ve tried everything (different SD cards, overwrite formatting, clean contacts) but no luck. The self test passes for everything, including the SD slot. If you have absolutely any other suggestions I’d greatly appreciate it.

Are you using the latest AVS OS? It changed something wiht PAL and has issues with the N8 beta OS. I recommend trying AVS firmware 1.30 beta 5.

I don’t remember updating the firmware, but I’ll double check. I haven’t dug too much into the AVS side of things other than to try a real NES cart to make sure it worked. Do you think replacing the CR2032 battery the N8 would make a difference? I took it out and “tested” it in a guitar tuner to see if it still had a charge (it does).
