Mega Everdrive X3 has an X5 board inside
« on: April 01, 2019, 08:11 PM »
Hello,

Purchased an X3 during the Black Friday discount sale and upon inspection it has an X5 board inside, it does not have the reset button or battery in place and a few other components are missing.

Anyone know what's happened here?

Probably the same thing that made a lot of commpanys alot the age, the board is the same. The difference is less ics implemented in the x3. Less ics=more cheap.

Glad I bought my Mega Everdrive X7 at Stone Age Gamer.  I don't trust anyone else.

I already had an X3 , I purchased another X3 and an X5 this past year. The first X3 has a far simpler board which says X3 on it, the two latest units both use the X5 board.

Perhaps it was a stock issue and they were forced to use the X5 board.

It is to cut costs, The Everdrive GBX series does the same, it says X7 on pcb even if you have a x3 or x5.

It isn't a problem at all.

Only couple first batches of x3 had a pause button (someone correct me on this one if wrong).

Hi NotoriousPIGGY,

I ordered an X3 at the end of 2016 and mine too had an X5 board inside. I'm not sure about yours but mine actually had the socket for the reset button on the board. I ordered some of the buttons from eBay and soldered one in place and it works perfectly. If you're confident enough with a soldering iron, I highly recommend giving it a go. Just search on eBay for a right-angle momentary tactile push button switch, 6mm x 6mm x 10mm. Just be aware that you'll have to cut a small notch into the front shell.

Thank you very much hatthewmartley, It does indeed have the points for the button on the board so I will be taking your advice  ;D
