So with a real Mario Kart 64 cartridge, you can hold start while you power on the N64 to access a Controller Pak management screen.

Several N64 carts have similar functionality, holding start and all, but I can't seem to get any of them to work using an EverDrive 64 v3.  Is this not possible?

If not, or I guess otherwise even... does anyone know of a standalone/test/homebrew ROM with that functionality?

This might not help but if you have a Gameshark, it has a built in memory card manager.

Ooh that's actually great to know.  I do have one but haven't touched it since the N64's heyday so I forgot all about that feature.  Perhaps a reason to keep it and a cheap real cart around...

I find it odd that some cart functionality is currently not available in the top of the line flash cart. :(

OH that gives me an idea... as these memory-card managers are in the ROMs themselves, I bet there's a GameShark code that could be entered into the EverDrive to launch the game directly/only into the Controller Pak data manager.  Gotta be... hmm.

Huh? I've never had that issue as of yet on my Everdrive v3.

I haven't had a problem accessing the controller pak menus on games on a v3.

Wouldn't holding Start during the game load trigger the save manager screen when the game boots up?

On the Everdrive, yeah.

Oh.  So I just tried it again and it worked fine, on a v3 with a Mario Kart 64 rom.

Huh.  No idea what I was messing up before.

Thanks to those who said it works for you; I guess I needed that sanity check to try it again.

As for a good game to use for controller pak managing, I always use Ganbare Goemon: Neo Momoyama Bakufu no Odori (Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon). It displays file names correctly, unlike certain other games, and you can access the controller pak menu from options if you forget to hold start.

Oh that is PERFECT then.  Thanks nuu!

I use the game “Perfect Dark.”  It has a pack manager in the game options.

Perfect Dark is also good but it displays mojibake in file names which is why I prefer Ganbare Goemon.

I always use Doom 64 for Memory Card Management.
When you boot the game apears the message to hold Start, to enter in Management.
