Neo Geo CD ODE by furrtek?

He says it's about 60% done.

I never heard about this until I looked it up. I'm surprised.

I'm sure I have not heard of it because the AES and MVS Flash Carts have been released and are doing well. Nonetheless, I think furrtek is doing an amazing thing working on a Neo Geo ODE.
1) Most of these consoles use x1 speeds which are terribly slow. So if we get cartridge like load times, that'd be amazing.
2) Lasers are going to die, so this will be a great way to preserve the CD based Neo Geo consoles

I don't own a Neo Geo, but have been thinking about a AES. But now I might think about the CD based console. I like the aesthetics better and I think it goes better with the neo geo control pads (not the arcade sticks).

Only thing I don't know if this will save stuff like high scores? I know the AES has a memory card for that.

Any details as to how/where you would install this?

I think, it'd be like the Dreamcast GDEMU or Saturn Rhae/Pheobe. So you'd basically replace the laser unit with a ODE + SD Cards to load games.

That's what I would assume, which is kind of mehhhh.  While the NeoCD units are a lot cheaper than the AES are, they're a highly robust system.  They normally don't break down, so you'd be replacing in most cases a functioning CD drive.

That's fair that they are durable lasers. But lasers don't last forever. Even the Saturn which is known to have a good laser, has its units dying. Neo Geo lasers might be alive, simply because they are not getting played much. Like I said before, all lasers will die eventually.

And you will get great load times with this ODE method and less time watching a juggling monkey.

I'm sure it will.

What I'm wondering if it will be able to play AES/MVS games (like how the AES Flash Cart is able to play CD games). Because there was quite a bit of AES/MVS exclusives because the CD console was discontinued much earlier.

To name a few:

Samurai Shodown V
The King of Fighters 2003
Metal Slug 5
Metal Slug 4
The King of Fighters 2001
Metal Slug 3
Metal Slug X

the CD system was an upgraded Neo Geo so I don't see why not, at least technically.  not sure what it involves to "convert" an MVS rom to CD.

Now that's a blast from the past... I haven't heard of that name since the time I played that GBC game called Akiraki I think.
