Which version of the Everdrive 64 do you have
« on: December 07, 2019, 03:55 PM »
I've had my version 2.0 for about seven years now, it's never let me down, and it does everything I want, so I've never bothered to upgrade it. I might buy another ED64 as a spare though, probably an X7.

Version 2 here too, it's not too bad to have to hold reset before shutting it down and the internal clock for animal crossing is trivial at best.

I have a 2.5 and I used to have a 3.0.  I mostly use the 64drive now, but I still use the 2.5 from time to time in a secondary N64.  Honestly I got so used to doing the reset thing that it's never been a problem.  The major drawback for me was not being able to use some of the Debug stuff in Doshin with 2.5, and that isn't too big a deal.  Even before I got the 64drive I didn't get much use out of the 3.0.

Most of what I do is hacking, and I still haven't had to hack any of the games that really use the features of the 3.0 so this is not from the gaming side of things :)
Projects: Zelda OoT GCtoN64, Doshin the Giant, SSSV, Sim City 64, Getter Love, Shiren
Flash Carts: EverDrive64 2.5, EverDrive N8, SD2SNES

2.0  ;) , believe it or not, the reset button to save games has advantages, and I think the  version 2.0 and 2.5 are better than 3.0

v2.5 and I'm very satisfied. Got it during a Black Friday sale for around $80 which is a major bargain for such an impressive bit of kit.

2.0 without USB. Technically a bit superior to 2.5 since it has a spot for adding a USB port.

One advantage is that if you decide that you don't want to keep a save you can choose to do so by not resetting (you could use this to abuse the suspension system in Majora's Mask). A big disadvantage though is that it's easy to loose your save if you have a power outage or if the game hangs. I had this problem when it was still new, the N64 hang when resetting and I lost a few hours worth of play, not fun. A solution is to save and reset often, but not all games can do that (Mario Party and Japanese version of Majora's Mask for example).

Although Doubutsu no Mori and Pokemon Stadium Kin Gin are inexpensive games, I will probably still pick up X7 at some point.

tbh (On the topic of USB), USB seems kinda overblown. I don't mean to diss krikzz, but the port docs/code is lacking. In the future i want to make a example program/windowsexe with the N64 SDK as a proof of concept that USB connection is possible. I haven't heard of any N64 homebrew project actually using the port yet

I have 2.0 (no USB) though I swapped out the CIC for the UltraCIC II this year. I've had the cart since 2013.
