New Master Everdrive X7 problem
« on: December 23, 2019, 10:18 PM »
Hi, I have just received my new Master Everdrive X7 last Thursday. I have tested with two Master System 2 and two Master System 1, all of them european region, I am spanish.
With both Master System 2, there are no trouble, I switch them on and I can watch the Everdrive menu inmediatly, but with both Master System 1 it is imposible to make it works, I only can watch "System Error v2.4".

I tried more than 20 games of my personal collection on each Master System I, and all of them work perfectly, there is no "System error" message, it only happens with Master Everdrive X7.

Why does it happen Krikzz?. I know "System Error" message is because of some issues reading the cartridge, but I tried more than 20 games and all work perfectly.

Both Master System 1 have Safari hunt and Hang-on in memory.

Thank you.

Sorry, i can't say why it not working. From PAL region i have only model 2 at the moment. Those error likely related to checksum check fails, but why it happens.

I can confirm the same issue.

Firstly, I have the standard Master Everdrive, this works no issues with my two PAL Master System model 1s (Hang-on and Safari Hunt built in and Missile Command 3D built in) and it works with my Game Gear with Master Gear converter.

However, I picked up the Master Everdrive X7 so I can do save states, as life is busy and figured I can incrementally complete some of my old favourite games. However, I could not get the X7 (OS 1.04) to work with either of my PAL Master System model 1s, I get the following error on both systems:

V2.4
MASTER SYSTEM C SEGA 1988
SOFTWARE ERROR

Also, I could not get the X7 to work on my Game Gear with Master Gear converter, I get "BAD MEMORY" and a red screen.

I did have luck with my PAL model 1 Mega Drive and Power Base converter. I was able to play ROMs etc. (except no in-game menu of course, being on the Power Base converter). My PAL model 1 Mega Drive is modded with region switches and the X7 worked in PAL and NTSC modes.

Unfortunately, I'm not able to take advantage of the in-game save state feature of the X7 as I don't have a PAL Master System 2. Hoping it's possible there might be a future OS update for the X7 that fixes this?

Krikzz, is there any way I can help? Can I lend you a model 1 PAL Master System? I'm in the UK.

All the best

I will try to buy one, seems like some available at local flea market

edit:
Found information about checksum calculation bug in some sms bios version, not sure if it source of problem, but looks like possible option. Working over solution... Likely it cannot be fixed without sending cart back for exchange

I have the same problem.

I have two french SMS I that work just fine with original 2011 Master Everdrive, and they both display the "software error" message on startup with the X7.

I also have two PAL SMS II and they work just fine with the X7.

Krikzz, thank you for looking into this issue and working on a solution.

On this thread. Six European model 1 Master Systems seem to have the comparability problem with the X7 and one other model 1 Master System tested, is ok.

I wonder, is the ok model 1 Master System also a European model? If not, then is it an issue with only European Model 1 Master Systems? Or, if the model 1 Master System that the X7 does work on also a European model, then maybe it's just some European Model 1 Master Systems the X7 is compatible with at the moment?

Maybe it will help knowing what BIOS versions everyone has, or if you don't know, then what are the built in games. That might narrow it down?

My two incompatible European Model 1 Master Systems are 'Missile Defence 3D' built in and 'Hang-on and Safari Hunt' built-in. Both V.2.4

Hi fille1976, that's great to know, some European Master System model 1s work. Do you happen to know your BIOS version, what are the built in games? Thank you.

Try holding reset while powering on the SMS, that fixed it for me.

I can't test the reset button workaround, as I have sent mine back for refund. But will repurchase if their is a fix. Can any of the earlier posters who have reported this incomparability with their Euro model 1s, also confirm the reset button workaround fixes the issue? Also, if it works, is the in-game menu accessible? Does it work with save states? Brilliant news if it does, and there is a straight-forward workaround, until there is a potential BIOS revision?

So, I've been playing around a little longer as something started acting up again. I may have been too hasty posting my work around (apologies for that)

I have a PAL model 1 with bios v3.4 (only hang-on built in), for the record I did the switched version of the 50/60hz mod.

So far I've discovered if I try booting the cart in 60hz mode I get a 100% failure rate "Software Error", however, booting 60hz to hang-on works fine.

Then I "thought", when I boot the cart in 50hz, the first time it fails, if I turn off then on again with-in 5 seconds it boots fine. If I then turn off the system for more than 5 seconds and then on it fails again. This turns out to be inconsistent.

Just a thought, fille1976, what is the power rating of your power supply? 10v, 9v, 850ma, 1.2a? Mines the standard 9v 850ma, I see the U.S adapter is 9v 1a. Could that be our issue???

As I said I have two french SMS I, one with Hang On and one with Alex Kidd in Miracle World.

The first one never worked with the X7. The second only occasionally. Both work fine with original 2011 Master Everdrive and game cartridges.

Using the reset trick, I got both to work first try most of the time.

Hi again KRIKzz, I thought it was only my case,  but I am still very interested in playing it with my MS1. I have a question for you KRIKzz, Could I send the cart back to you for a exchange?, as I tell you I am still very interested and it is impossible to play with my European MS1.

Thank you.
