New to EverDrive 64. Just got an X7
« on: May 03, 2020, 01:53 AM »
How's everybody doing today? So I already found out that it can't read from a winrar zip file. They are extracting right now and they are z64 files. Is an expansion pack needed to play some games like the old days? I have an 16GB MicroSD card. Are there any custom things I should download or look into?

Hey there, welcome to the forum.

The Everdrive can only run .z64, .v64, .n64 (64DD ROM converts only), .rom & .bin files. Yes, the Expansion Pak is still required for those that need the Pak since the Everdrive behaves like a real cart and not an emulator, otherwise you can still use it without it...just that you won't able to play Majora's Mask or DK64.

If by custom, you mean romhacks, right? Check out n64vault.com! Lots of exciting info there. See also: https://krikzz.com/forum/index.php?topic=9494.0

And for full save compatibility, please take a look at: https://krikzz.com/forum/index.php?topic=6126.0

Have fun.

Awesome. What about the smoke monster pack? I found something on Youtube that can make some games smoother. I might've already ask,but are there any tools for the Everdrive I should be aware of?

I haven't looked into Smokemonster pack stuff so I dunno. Someone else may help you with that.

Run smoother? That'll be likely this thread: https://krikzz.com/forum/index.php?topic=3892

Regarding tools, there's this thread, however most of it is intended for Everdrive V2/V3.

if you want to convert custom wallpapers with a simple program, then use this:
http://www.etrusoft.com/graphic-converter/
The wallpaper needs to be 320 x 240 with an jpg format.

If you have any project64 saves, there's a program that converts them to work on a Everdrive. Look for ED64-saveswap.zip in my backup link for saturnus' ED64 programs.

If you have a Controller Pak, the Everdrive can backup the pak save as a .MPK file however you still need an Controller Pak in order to use its backup.

Otherwise you're pretty much set to play.
