Everdrive 64 x7. Games not booting, stuck on black screen
« on: September 18, 2021, 04:02 PM »
Just bought this brand new.

a bit of history - I first started off getting errors when booting the cart, reformatted my SD card, then eventually replaced it (still sandisk brand 32gb). I have stopped getting those errors now.

when I try to launch a game nothing happens. The reset button still works to take me back to the games menu.

I copied the save_db file from another post and managed to get goldeneye to load but that was short lived and now back to nothing.

about my console - Pal region, RGB mod, playing USA roms

would love some help. My FXPak Pro worked fine with no issues

Have you tried playing PAL roms, to rule out the N64 as the problem?

Ok found some europe roms. I tried 10 different games, They all work! except for ocarina of time masters quest.

although im happy its running fine now and i can live with what ive got. Would anyone be able to clarify the problem with the USA roms? is it because they are 60hz? that would explain why Masters Quest doesnt work either even though its europe. and is there any solution?

at the moment im using my 2nd PC monitor. i have a cheap composite to hdmi converter, the image quality sucks but it gets the job dont when i need to work on my consoles. I used the same setup for my SNES USA games and they worked fine (not sure if its the same video formatting)

MODEL NO: Dell S2330MX

If you have n64 RGB mod you should be using RGB SCART cable with RGB SCART to hdmi converter instead

n64 is only home console where composite video encoding output does not play nice with video converters

Glad to see that you found a solution. I've been looking at this thread the past few weeks, hoping to find one myself.

I have the same problem - PAL TV with PAL N64-console, whenever an NTSC-game is launched, the screen just goes black, but every PAL-game works. Brand new Everdrive 64 x7.
The TV is a Philips (7304, so relatively new), and I've read about how some of them might not support signals from NTSC.

Trouble is - I have a PAL Gamecube, running all my NTSC-games perfectly on it (through SWISS), so I assumed it was capable of supporting it.
Furthermore, I'm already using a Retrotink 2X Pro to connect my N64 to the TV, so it line-doubles the image into outputting 60Hz 480p. Then again, maybe there's just something more about video standards I don't understand. Any idea what the problem might be?

The version differences don't bother me all that much (I'm used to the speed difference), but what's bothering me is not being able to play a few titles that were exclusive to NTSC, such as Harvest Moon 64, or the Japanese games that have received a translation patch (such as Custom Robo).
