You, know...come to think of it I don't even know why the PSIO would need a modchip, I have one of those cartridge things that you plug into the back that boots its own thing up, I got it new...but it had to be from well over 10 years ago. (the idea was to get it to play burned CDs, didn't work out for me) But my point is that it bypassed everything and went to its own menu without any kind of modchip. So why can't the PSIO do that?

There are devices for the 3DO that let it play games off of IDE hard drives or USB flash drives, forget which, for Jaguar, you're pretty much stuck because there is no flash device for it. Best I can say is find a tempest 2000, the alien game, Doom and Wolf 3D because those are probably the best games on it.

I got these new mappers for my PowerPak and I am happy with them. Its a great improvement.

The mapper charts of the ED8 and PP compared are interesting. I only have the PP and can't  really get the ED8 just for the sake of comparison, but it looks like the ED8 can play Arkanoid 2....and the PP can't...d'oh...

There was also something about Battle Kid 2 being playable on the Ed8, but not on the PP. Other than those two it looks like they have the same range for the most part.

Sometimes, things are simply technically impossible and there's nothing you can do about that. This is a case of that. I assume, because they didn't say otherwise, that you will still be able to use commercial discs.

You can't get annoyed because you believe people will do something that turns out to be impossible, unless of course they were claiming they could, and I don't think they were here.

EDIT: And it's not like there's no difference between standard modchips and this. This removes the need for burning CDs, which is a pretty big thing. It's like saying there's no difference between a floppy copier and a flash cart (well, not exactly, but it's comparable).

I'm not annoyed because they couldn't do it completely external, I'm annoyed because they lead us to believe so.

Yeah, that's what really got me. It was never mentioned anywhere that it would require any kind of modification or skill as long as the Playstation in question had the parallel out in the back. It was supposed to be just something you jammed in the back with an SD card full of isos that would just work.

It's not that I don't appreciate the work and effort, I do, believe me I do, but In all the videos, in all the pictures, it was never presented as anything more than a simple flash cart like device that would plug into the back, zero modding required. It was mentioned that there would need to be some modding if the Playstation didn't have the parallel out, but that's it.

Needless to say I feel I have every right to be a little miffed that after following this project for who knows how long, that this business with a modchip gets slipped in. I'm still going to follow it until it's done just in case it is (hopefully) a mistake.

Well, that's a bummer. I was under the impression that you load the isos on an SD card, shove that in the PSIO then put that in the port on the back and you're good to go. Now, later models that don't have the parallel(?) port on the back, they said would need some kind of internal mod to work...

guess I'll just have to wait and see, if it isn't a drop in, solution then I'm out.

F-Zero X merged with the Expansion would be a best case scenario (in my opinion) when it comes to 64dd. It's the only game on the 64dd I really care about. I suppose Doshin or SimCity 64 would be neat too...but those are complete games and Doshin is on GCN (E and J)

Updating F Zero X with stereo sound, the track editor, the super vehicles, and new tracks would be a dream hack.

This is true, however the Saturn is a bit of an anomaly. I have a feeling Krikzz meant he wasn't interested in doing drive replacements (like PSIO). The Saturn, however has a slot for a cartridge sized device. In fact..though though I was only 5 or so years old when the thing came out I remember playground rumours that the Saturn could play Genesis/MD games because all the pictures of it had what looked like a cartridge slot on top, behind the pop top tray.

Granted, those hopes were dashed to pieces when it came out and it was revealed to be nothing more than a slot for memory cards and RAM upgrades for certain games, I can imagine that it is indeed possible to spoof the Saturn into loading a game through it.

If Krikzz were to ever consider it...I would be mighty tempted to find a Saturn.

Now if only they'd do the same for the Wavebirds.  Over $50 for the set on eBay, they can kiss my butt.  I need one extra receiver to go with platinum Wavebird I have.

Wavebird analogue sticks can be swapped the same way. I experimented on mine, but then I started playing with the wired controller instead...(wavebird must be saved for emergencies...)

It may seem unnecessary, and I admit it is, however I find that it feels more natural to have 2 analogue sticks of the same model and make than having 2 different ones. If you observe the GCN's contemporaries, the Xbox and PS2, their analogue sticks are identical. It looks more natural. I also find that it has more of a "grip" on the thumb than the C stick.

I suppose it could be good for smash attacks. Although the GCN had few FPS games, Timesplitters and Jedi Outcast were considerably more enjoyable without the C Stick.

You mean you would buy GC controllers to source the analogue joysticks in order to use them on something else?

Yeah, getting new GCN controllers is hard now-a-days. I have to use a scratched up used one, and many of the 1st party ones I find are kinda iffy. The 3rd party ones are absolute rubbish.

In case there is any confusion as to what I do with them, see the attachment. It's a really easy mod to do and I enjoy the extra tactile feeling of it. With New GCN controllers available I can buy some and then buy some more analog sticks, pull a switch-a-roo, and have nice new controller.
