GBA x5 and the GameCube Gameboy Player
« on: September 06, 2018, 07:14 PM »
Anyone have freezing issues with their GBA games played from the x5 cart on the Gameboy Player?  Mine seems to play a while and then abruptly freezes with artifacts on the screen and screeching sounds.  Requires a full reset to try again.  It happens with official roms and hacks and occurs usually within 5 minutes of beginning to play.  I have x5 Model 16 Rev A.

One thing to note though, is that this freezing doesn't happen when I am playing from a regular GBA system and GBA SP system.

Which games in particular? Do emulated games freeze or just native GBAs?

You can email Krikzz to see if he has any suggestions.

Hmmm did some more testing and it's not as widespread as I thought.  It's particularly present on hacked roms like Final Fantasy VI (with "all fixes", color restore, etc. - 16 MB EU version) and other roms that have had color restorations.  I'll try cleaning the GBP contacts and do some more testing.

1. Official GBP Disc

2. OS Ver 1.12

So the ROM I am using has several hacks that were pushed onto each other, which I know makes things difficult.
Final Fantasy VI Advance (E) (M6) [SoundResv2.1 + ColorRes + AllFixes&Rages + T+WSv2 + OrigFont].gba

Also had issues with this one:
Super Mario Advance 2 - Super Mario World (U) [!] [ColorRes].gba

So I did just try both of these roms on the EZ Flash IV, using the same Gamecube, Gameboy Player and GBP Official Disc.  No freezing with the EZ Flash IV, but basically guaranteed freezing with the GBA x5.
