So this is a Firefox problem? I personally would never want to touch Chrome or Edge if I could help it.

I have Firefox 93.0 (64 bit), and that let's me download the file OK.

I suppose it might be a problem caused either by ToonShader64's version of Firefox somehow avoiding many mandatory updates, or more likely (but still pretty unlikely) one of his Firefox's installed extensions causing the problem. One thing you quickly learn about Windows PCs is to always have a few different browsers installed, in case of any problems such as this one.


Edit: I should have added, keep one of the browsers (one that you don't normally use) totally unaltered, i. e. don't add any extensions or addons or anything to it. That way, if you do use it to do something that doesn't seem to work on your regular browser(s), then you don't have the worry that any third party addons or extensions might prevent this browser from doing what you want.

I think quite a few people would be pleased to see a fully translated and working version of Animal Crossing on the N64. Hopefully with the ability to manually set the date and time, for those people whose flash cartridges don't have a real time clock.

The download works for me. When you click on the link, you go to a page with the text

"ED64_Saves_002.zip              Open With"

at the top of the screen, and at the top of the right hand side of the screen are four icons. Click on the third icon in from the right, which is a down arrow, and it should download the archive file OK.

The following line is technically a left-over error from my testing. This build of the game doesn't actually work according to Forest of Illusion, so it's not needed here. Sorry about that!

Though that list hasn't been updated in a while, so there may be more solutions now. I've not tried any of them, so I can't recommend any, sorry.

Yes, most N64 hacks and mods need the expansion pak to be present, or they cannot run. This seems to be true especially for newer hacks/mods.

If I was smart, then when the masses were upgrading to LCD TVs, I would have picked up three or four used CRT TVs. People were selling them really cheaply, or even just giving them away, just to get rid of them to make room for their shiny new futuristic LCD TVs. With a (decent) CRT, you get a good picture on the older consoles, no hassle, and three or four of them would probably last me until I die.

From time to time, I do still think of picking up a CRT and setting it up with my older consoles, but it's one of those things, like building an arcade cabinet (and installing MAME, or whatever the current best arcade emulator is, on it), redecorating the house, learning Linux, etc, that I think about when I'm bored but will probably never get around to.

A very important update today:

Anarkkie has discovered a serious bug that's related to the save_db.txt file. As he puts it:

"It seems whenever the save_db.txt file hits 5kb in size, the EverDrive will start culling out entries and not applying them to games. Whenever I trim excess data to get it down to 4kb, it works as intended again.

This seems to be a file size issue, and not a line count issue.

So it would appear that efficient descriptions, removing unnecessary spaces, some redundant entries, removing the intro text (0=No Save, 1=EEPROM4k, etc.) helps lower file size.

As more entries get found, this may become an issue for people. I'd like to get ahead of the issue and fill you guys in on my findings

To combat this bug, he has created two versions of the save_db.txt file, which are now both in the first post of this thread, use the one that correlates to your Everdive 64's operating system version.

As others have said, an N64 with an Everdrive 64 can play games from all three regions (PAL, NTSC, and JAP), as PAL 60Hz, but the speed is slightly off by a couple of percent, as is the sound, but it's too small a difference to be noticed by most people. I certainly can't detect it on my PAL N64 + PAL TV. You can mod the N64 to display it properly, I think, but I know nothing about that.

The problem is that many (it seems like most) LCD TVs can't properly display the output from consoles from the fifth generation of consoles (N64, PSX, and earlier). From the sixth console generation onwards (original XBox, PS2, Gamecube, etc it seems OK, anything earlier then you might be out of luck.

I've had my N64 for twenty-three years now, and I've used it with four TVs; all PAL (I am in England), they were two CRT, and two LCD. My N64 is PAL, of course, as is my Everdrive 64.

My first TV, a CRT, displayed all PAL N64 games properly, of course. I didn't get to try NTSC or JAP games on it, as I didn't have the Everdrive 64 back then, I was just using genuine game cartridges purchased from local shops.

My second TV, a CRT, with my Everdrive displayed all three regions (PAL, NTSC, and JAP) of N64 games properly. Well, as I later learned, NTSC and JAP games are a couple of % faster than they should be, and since I haven't modded the N64 then it will always be that way, but to me it's unnoticeable, so to me they run and are displayed perfectly.

My third TV, an LCD TV, displayed all PAL, and most NTSC or JAP N64 games correctly. Some NTSC or JAP games wouldn't show, and the TV just displayed a permanent black screen (but the game's music still played, as the N64 was still happily running the game as normal) but luckily that didn't include any that I really wanted to play (I was happy to play the PAL versions of those games, or miss out on the NTSC/JAP only games that I couldn't play). A few NTSC/JAP games showed just a black screen when they started, but fortunately displayed the game properly from the game's main menu onwards. And when the game did display, then it looked good. Not as good as via the CRT TVs, but of course older consoles, if they display at all, don't tend to look fantastic on an LCD display.

My fourth TV, which is LCD, displayed all three regions of N64 games, but it did so *terribly*. The screen didn't flicker or roll, but it did every other bad thing. The colours were wrong, there were bars of colour at the right hand side for some reason, there was ghosting, and probably other things that I can't remember. It was unplayable. The only solution if I wanted to play on my N64 on this TV was to either get the console modded to output to HDMI or RGB, or to by a signal converter. So I did the latter, and bought a RetroTINK, which is a device that you plug your N64 video out cable(s) into, and the RetroTINK then outputs a HDMI signal via a HDMI cable to your TV. And it's really good. It's not perfect, you would get a better picture if you directly mod your N64, but the RetroTINK device is cheaper, easier to find (the demand for N64 hardware HDMI mods is so large that it's very difficult to buy one, but RetroTINK's stuff is easily available online), needs no skilled installation (just plus the cables into the RetroTINK), and you can of course use the RetroTINK with any old consoles, whereas a hardware HDMI mod in your N64 is of couse limited to the N64 that it's solder in).



So now I can play N64 games, of any region, which includes of course the hacks and mods of all those games, and I'm really happy with it now. But regarding your TV, and this is *extremely* annoying, TV manufacturers don't say anywhere (online, in the manual, etc) whether or not their TVs will work with older consoles, or certain input signals, etc. So though a RetroTINK converter would probably work with your TV, I don't know if there is a chance that it won't. If you are thinking of buying one, then you should probably e-mail the company at:

and see if they can confirm that you can definitely use the converters with your TV.

BTW,. when you do get your problem sorted out, then you will love the Everdrive 64, as there are so many *brilliant* game hacks and mods for you to play. The Everdrive really transforms the N64!

QoL term itself is abusive here.

Allowing to do things that wouldn't be possible otherwise can be great. Resetting with the controller allows not to do things, that is get up, press reset, go back and sit down.

I understand the lazy argument, as well as the convenience found in this new interaction, though unauthentic.

And I also prefer a minimalist approach so as to ensure a flash cart behaves like an original cart.

To this day, I don't think the ED64 X7 is there, even though it may be just because of its OS.

With the v2.0, v2.5, and v3 Everdrives, all of the extra features are entirely optional, and you can ignore or forget about them if you choose. I can't comment on the X5 or X7, but from what I've read, there are some compatibility problems with some games, that can be avoided if you use v2.13 of the official OS instead of the v3.x new OS, and perhaps these incompatibilities are down  to the v3.x OS causing conflict with one or more of the extra features that the Everdrive offers.

My point is that features should be added with care. Quality of life features are ok as long as they stay out of your way. If it messes with memory or the ROM or other hardware it will become a problem at some point, as we all are painfully aware of, and must have a way to be disabled.

But no one is saying that such features MUST had adverse effects too. When people request a feature, there is the unspoken implication that the requested feature doesn't otherwise harm the system or it's usage of it.

And your point is not that "features should be added with care". You first post in this thread was "I'm mostly shocked that people are so incredibly lazy.", which is just stupid an insulting. You clearly put no thought into that post, and are now attempting to defend your attitude, by twisting things to make it seem like you actually meant something instead of just posting drivel.
