Mega EverDrive / Re: Demons of Asteborg on Mega Everdrive X7 ?

Krikzz should still offer some minimum support for the X7 like finding ways to fix already existing bugs like why the X7's battery back-up saves never seem to work properly on ''Megaman The Wily Wars'' and ''Wonderboy In Monster World'' even when following the correct prompts like reseting back to main menu and as far as I know the Megaman and Wonderboy EPROM saving issue has been going on for 7 years now and the latest firmware still doesn't fix it. I can understand these unlicensed large indie games with different chip sets in them not working on the X7 like Paprium, Pier Solar and the evil Demons of Asteborg which gave my X7 some sort of virus for a short time, but I don't think he should just toss the Mega EverDrive X7 on the scrap heap. These flash carts are still quite expensive, well at least here in Australia they are because of shipping and import taxes slapped on plus the currency rate is much lower here so a $170 US dollar X7 from the Krikzz store easily rises to $300 AU.

If he chooses not to support the old X7 series, at least lower the price a little I say as a done product. Pro does nothing for me i'd personally rather use a real Mega-CD attachment and burn CD-Rs. There's been far too many issues and problems from people of the community having trouble trying to organise folders and how to play ISO/bin files in cue folders with WAV and MP3 music files etc. I couldn't be stuffed with dealing with all that, X7 all the way with real Mega-CD add-on so I can just pop any music CD in the tray and be done with it. (Just my opinion of course) not trying to piss anybody off who owns a Pro.

Wow what a nightmare! But I really doubt that a ROM could actually damage the Everdrive, the worst thing that I think could happen would be a corrupt SD card and possibly the boot loader. And the limited ROM size of the X7 is claimed to be 15MB not 10MB, so the reason it doesn't work on the X7 must be something else unless I missed something.

I bought my X7 a very long time ago back in August 2015 when it was the top EverDrive on the market and on the back of the case and in the stonage gamer manual (which is where I purchased it from) it clearly states that 10 Megabytes is the limit. That's why ''Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy'' doesn't run once you add the music patch to it bumping it up to well past 10 Megabytes to 13 Megabytes resulting in a black screen.

I have always looked after my X7 all these years and have never had a problem with it. This was the first really horrible experience i've had with it. True, it could have been an SD card corruption but when I checked the card on the PC there were no issues detected. It may have damaged the boot loader like you pointed out. All I know is that once I removed the ROM entirely from the SD card, the X7 went back to normal, so Demons of Asteborg gave it some sort of negative reaction.

Okay I just had a very bad experience with the DEMO of Demons Of Asteborg on my Mega EverDrive X7.

My story should keep you lot away from it, if you want the game just buy it on a single cart from the proper shop.

I downloaded it as it was for free as I was curious to what everybody was raving about, I did notice it was 14 Megabytes big when I downloaded it (which is over the 10 Megabyte limit) but was too curious, so I boot it on my Mega EverDrive X7, and it first gave me a message saying the SRAM is corrupted, when I got past that screen the intro was extremely buggy with lots of graphical artifacting, then the title screen came on like nornal, I pressed start and then got a black screen that never ended.

I don't really care about this game to be honest or whether it runs on the X7 or not, it's what happened after that is what frightened the hell out of me! After booting Demons Of Asteborg I went back to play some other ROMS and they all crashed! I tried booting many common Mega Drive games such as Sonic The Hedgehog, Jewel Master etc and half of them crashed on the ''PLEASE WAIT'' screen before the game even finished loading. Others gave me an SD card error screen, while some booted but crashed as soon as I brought up the in-game menu. It even crashed on the ''run diagnostics'' test screen not finishing it's test. My adrenaline was pumping and my anxiety was flaring up because your immediate response is ''oh shit it's f--ked and there's nothing I can do!''

Anyway it seems to have ended well, I took out the Demons Of Asteborg ROM from the SD card and after that the X7 went back to normal, I was able to run diagnostics without a hiccup, games loaded and games functioned properly with the in-game menu brought up in between gameplay. Even Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy worked again so that retard Demon demo of a game was responsible for the bugs and crashes on the X7, it wasn't until I removed the ROM entirely that the X7 worked properly again.

So my experience was almost life threatening because these EverDrives are not cheap were I live and buying another one and having to wait til it gets shipped over here takes far too long especially during this never ending Groundhog Day Covid-19 Delta apocalypse that never seems to end and i'm in lockdown and have been for nearly 3 months.

So take it from me, DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE ROM TO PLAY ON THE X7, its not designed for it, it exceeds the 10 Megabyte limit of the console and the X7 is not designed to handle extremely large games that are made with different technology of 2021 and beyond.

To be fair it is partially my fault for letting curiousity get the better of me. When it comes to Paprium or Demons Of Asteborg there is no other option but to buy the games on single carts from the online shops, even watermelon's Pier Solar doesn't run.

And to think it was only the demo. The full game might have exploded my Mega Drive!

So at first it was okay and then it started repeating the same procedure as your other Mega Drive?

5
Let us know the outcome yeah?

6
That's quite strange? It should boot straight to the ''Produced By Or Under Licence Screen'' and then flick different colours for a spilt second and then go to the Everdrive menu of ROMS.

Have you got another Genesis/Mega Drive to try the X7 on? Be interesting to see if the same thing happens on another Mega Drive? At least that way you might be able to determine which one is at fault - the X7 or the modded Mega Drive model 1 (PAL).

Hi guys, look this is nothing new as this has been brought to the public's attention quite a few times on this forum but I thought I might just add a list of Master System games that don't run on the X7 one final time as i've recently discovered more titles that don't boot properly.

Also i'm wondering: can anybody that owns a Mega EverDrive Pro please confirm if any of these games still don't work on the Pro? It would be very interesting to get feedback from the community on this one.

Games that don't work on the Mega EverDrive X7 with latest firmware.

1. Sega Chess = Black Screen nothing
2. The Lion King = Can't actually play the game as it haults to an endless black screen after the title screen.
3. The Jungle Book = It resets itself back to the title screen after defeating the snake boss in stage 2, so you can never actually play it properly unless you use the stage select cheat.
4. Pitfighter = You get approximately one second into the game and then it crashes each and every time.
5. Krusty's Fun House = It crashes after the title screen over and over again. Unplayable
6. James Bond 007 = Same as Pitfighter, it crashes seconds upon boot up.
7. Super Space Invaders = Constantly loops the opening text over and over so you're never able to actually get into the actual game.
8. Street Fighter II = Now this one is a Tectoy exclusive and even this game doesn't run properly, once you finish a round it decides to crash.

Now there might be other titles that have issues that i'm not aware of yet but these are the one's I found. Would be very interesting to see if these games still have the same problem with the Pro or whether they were fixed.

If we examine the games upon careful inspection it is discovered that they are all western Master System releases not developed or published by Sega Enterprises Ltd Japan. Sega only licensed these titles to play on the SMS (usually in Europe and Brazil) so maybe there's something the X7 doesn't like about the programming of these western PAL Master System releases? Also to note that about 2 or 3 of them were programmed by the great Dominic Wood who first worked for Probe Software and then left to form Syrox Developments.

I personally own The Lion King, The Jungle Book, Pitfighter and Sega Chess on actual single carts and they run perfectly on the Mega Drive when using the Master System/Power Base Converter but the other ones I have no other way of playing them. Shouldn't matter whether I own them or not as single games they should all be working but I don't blame Krikkz for this as he could never guarentee that every single game was going to work 100% on his products.

The in-game menu doesn't work on SMS games.

Rings are supposed to keep turning in Sonic 2 when paused.

I can explain why returning to the save state mutes the music and it's actually quite normal than you think:

The X7 or Pro were not designed to save certain data from the Zilog Z80 like (Master System games) which all use the Z80.

Mega Drive/Genesis games that use Z80 sound drivers don't save music on the Mega EverDrive X7/Pro when performing a save-state, only 68K sound drivers have their music saved on the X7/Pro, the game you're trying to save state must be a game with a Z80 sound driver?

The best way around this issue is to learn when and where are the best places to record a save-state, which is usually right before the next level starts, that way when the music is muted when you return to it will only be for a really short time, like in the Sonic games where the best place to make a save-state is always on the ''Sonic Got Through'' or ''Sonic Has Passed'' screens with the end of level sign post. It's not really a good spot to save right in the middle of a level or at the beginning for this reason of music being muted with only sound effects heard.

The other way around this is to go to the sound test and play the music of the level you made a save on and immediately bring up the in-game menu and load your state from the sound test and it should continue playing whatever music you were playing in the sound test on the saved state.

Mega Drive/Genesis games that use Z80 drivers don't save music on the Mega EverDrive X7 when performing a save-state, only 68K drivers have their music saved on the X7 and Golden Axe 1 uses a Z80 driver, GAII & III however use 68000 ones.

The other way around this is to go to the sound test and play the Death-Adder theme music and immediately bring up the in-game menu and load your state and it should continue playing whatever music you were playing in the sound test on the Death Adder boss.

As to why it crashes when you lose a life and continue playing is beyond me? That actually sounds quite serious but it could be a side-effect caused by the Mega Key being left on, try turning this off and only use it when you really have to.

Your Game Genie codes might be duds, try matching them with codes from other sites for cross-reference. Hope I helped explain a few things.

Mega EverDrive / Re: Sega Genesis (Model 1) w/ 32x - In game menu
« on: February 05, 2021, 10:52 AM »
Well that sucks. The whole point of owning a Pro to me is to use the save-state feature so you don't have to sit through a game in one sitting that may take several hours.

Mega EverDrive / Re: SMS roms with Mega Everdrive Pro on Mega Sg
« on: February 05, 2021, 08:26 AM »
Sounds like you got a dudd! Either your Pro, Mega SG or Mega SG firmware is broken.

Why don't you try Mega SG firmware 4.6? 4.6 is better than 4.7 4.7 has an issue with SMS games with the zero lag zero delay option, every few seconds there is a judder in the frame rate when running SMS games on 4.7 in zero delay zero lag buffer option, 4.6 doesn't have this issue and runs perfectly smooth and just maybe it might run sms games for you.

It's worth a try, nothing to lose.

Really? Does the in-game menu not work when playing a Mega-CD/Sega-CD game through the Pro?

I know everybody is concentrating on the Mega EverDrive Pro and all the issues surrounding that at the moment but my issue is more about finding working PAR or Game Genie codes for PAL versions of games where USA versions also exist.

Can anyone out there help with this one game, all I can ever find is the Genesis NTSC Game Genie cheats for this game but they don't work with the PAL ROM. Forget ''Mazin Saga - Mutant Fighter'' (U) we need working invincible and infinite lives codes for the PAL (Europe) ROM. Mazin Wars.

It's getting really annoying when the community only focuses on the American versions of games, not everyone around the world has a Genesis, as you would suspect, i'm in a PAL region using 50Hz I have a PAL collection of games and everytime I go to look up cheats for Mega Drive/Genesis games unless they're (W) world ROMS or they're from PAL exclusive releases the codes seem to be only for the Genesis NTSC ROMS which are not the same as the PAL versions.

I'm not angry at anybody personally about this, just very frustrated with the situation on how we're all expected to just throw out our PAL games and start all over again with NTSC 60Hz ones. That's not how the world works, we need to start accepting all regions and not leaving out certain ones for the garbage.

By the way the same Game Genie codes for ''Mazin Saga - Mutant Fighter'' (U) do not work with ''Mazin Wars (E)

These codes do not work with the PAL ROM only the Genesis NTSC ROM.

AV8A-CA7Y   017CB4:6004 = Infinite Lives
AK2A-CA7C  0170A2:6002
A4HA-CA2C  018E02:6006 = Invincible For The Bosses

surely someone out there knows a few codes that work with the PAL version?
