First Time Everdrive - Blue Screen
« on: May 12, 2021, 11:58 PM »
Hi Everyone!
I decided to add an Everdrive N8 Pro to my game collection, as I had several ROMS I did not have cartridges for. I followed the directions (Three times - twice from my Mac, twice from my PC) and extracted the OS onto my SD Card, then load the ROMs to a folder I named "My Games". When I turn on the console, I get a blue screen.

I read on here that that is usually a corrupt boot loader, which happens more frequently when using a non-windows device, so I tried it using my Windows 10 Laptop and two different SD Cards-  Same result.

 Any thoughts?

I'll also add...

I'm using a Super Retro Trio as the console and a SanDisk 1GB MicroSD.

And to update...

After reading a few more posts, I've tried it all again (Format as FAT32, Extract OS onto Card, Add ROMS to card- Outside of OS Folders) and starting it up without the SD card, and I have the same results. Another post here said I should see an SD Card error? Could this cart be a lemon?

I think this might be a region lock issue.  When the EverDrive is on with the blue screen present, press the reset button on your console (5-10 times roughly).  If this was he issue, it should power correctly now.

The other thing that comes to mind is the OS that you're putting on the SD card might be incompatible.  Are you unzipping the newest OS for the N8-Pro?  I imagine installing any OS for the original N8 would give you problems.  Also would use a tool like "SD Memory Card Formatter" to format your SD (I think FAT32 is the preferred format).  https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter/

Looks like the newest version is v2.11.

Only other thing I can think of is that you're using a clone console, like a RetroN.  I've heard some problems can crop up there as well, but I'm not really familiar with the incompatibilities there.

Thought the same thing with the region lock. No change. I am using an SD formatter (I don't trust Windows or MacOS to format properly) and the current OS.

BUT, I found something from a post a few years back and it seems to be my bad...

the Retro Trio will work with the N8 (what made me purchase the N8). The Retro Trio Plus (what I ended up with) does not work.

I have my original front loader on its way - I'll give the N8 a shot there.
