SA-1 Chip for SD to SNES
« on: November 23, 2014, 02:59 AM »
Hi, I've been wanting to by the sd to snes for a long time, however I want a version which has the SA-1 chip which I believe was used in Super Mario RPG.

This chip I believe is a must have for developing and pushing the SNES to new heights. From what I understand its a processor that can out do the regular SNES around 3 times in processing power.

If you are a developer and wanted to do serious homebrew I would think this is a must for selling the sd to snes product.

I need to know if the SA-1 chip will ever be implemented on the SD to SNES?

Short answer: no

Long answer: maybe, but I am not sure the SD2SNES has a powerful enough FPGA so we may need to wait for a new generation of SNES flash carts with more powerful FPGAs.

Don't hold your breath, if you want to develop homebrew for SA-1 target byuu emulator, for real hardware target what is supported now (SD2SNES supports CX4, DSP1-4, ST-010, OBC1 and byuu invented MSU1).

I second Greg's statement. Just buy Super Mario RPG. It's far less of a headache and wait...and with SNES carts skyrocketing in value, grab one now while it's under the $50 price range.

I have heard that the super ufo actually looks like a super nintendo game genie in which you can plug in super fx chip games onto the top and then the super ufo uses those chips and can play the game. Is this true??? If so then why not do the same with the sd 2 snes?

The answer is in Q11 http://sd2snes.de/blog/faq
The super ufo doesn't support DSP games natively.

The only chip Super UFO supports is DSP1 and only if you got a DSP1 game attached above it. So don't compare the two... THERE IS NO FLASH CART ON THE MARKET THAT SUPPORTS SA-1 OR SUPER FX.

Why not just make a new thread called SD2SNES FAQ and have that there?

Because it would probably just link to the official one to make sure people see the latest info, I guess http://sd2snes.de/blog/faq

(Keeping the quote in-line to keep stressing the point...also because it amuses me)

Yup. Google search "SD2SNES" brings you right to the blog. Don't think we need a sticky for that. The sticky that's up currently has the infos and links to (just about) everything about it.
