Joyzz / Re: Joyzz PCB in Original shell ?
« on: May 24, 2020, 05:50 AM »
I put the Joyzz PCB into one of these shells -

I had to do the modifications that Krikzz mentioned above but it fits perfectly. Did you ever try it?

I know what you mean. I cut out the 2 tiny square pieces of plastic in the USB port hole and the plug goes in there nicely now. It's a shame there's such a big hole above it but I'll live with it, unless you have any suggestions?

Yeah, I had to do that too. A craft knife and some long-nose pliers, easy! Do you like the end result? To me, it feels like how it should have felt originally.

You need a hole for the USB charging socket. The hole in the retro-bit shell is just a little bigger because there was a cable there originally. No big deal really.

It's just a square hole, a little bit bigger than the hole on the Joyzz controller

Yeah, that'd be fantastic. The PCB is amazing but the shell falls a bit short.

Joyzz / A cheap solution for those with crappy quality shells

I got the Joyzz controller from Krikzz directly around 2 months ago, and what a brilliant bit of kit it is. Easily the fastest response wireless controller on the market, second to none. But I feel he really skimped out on the plastic quality and the printing. It feels really cheap and brittle. On my controller, after just 2 months, the start button label has already started to fade. Not good at all for a supposedly premium product. I even had a whinge here on the forum about a replacement shell, which seemed to get me nowhere. So I pre-ordered the new Retro-Bit officially licensed controller, purely just for the shell. This was only £15 posted here in the UK. I've linked it below. It arrived today and the quality is fantastic. It could be passed off as an original, official controller any day. So I did a straight PCB swap and I now have a very tasty Sega-branded wireless controller. I put the PCB from the Retro-Bit pad into the Krikzz shell, where it will live out it's life as a very decent player 2 controller. Nice to see that even the moulded plug is Sega-branded too.

It's a shame that Krikzz doesn't seem to want to address this issue or offer any kind of compensation, but to be honest, even if he did offer me a replacement shell, I'd have refused after seeing these new officially licensed controllers at such a great price. He should start selling the PCB separately so that people can put them in shells of their choice, because the board itself is phenomenal.

So can I get a replacement shell? This wasn't cheap and I chose this over 8bitdo because I expected a higher quality, but I feel like returning it. It feels cheap because of this. The paint should not be coming off after a month.

Mine is coming off too. I've only had it for one month. Makes the product feel very cheap. Is there anything we can do to sort this out Krikzz?

Mega EverDrive / Re: Shortcuts to ROMs on Everdrive?

That's a shame. I'm using just a 4GB card at the moment, but I suppose upgrading to an 8GB card to double up on ROMs for these folders won't be too much hassle.

Mega EverDrive / Re: Mega Everdrive X3 has an X5 board inside

Hi NotoriousPIGGY,

I ordered an X3 at the end of 2016 and mine too had an X5 board inside. I'm not sure about yours but mine actually had the socket for the reset button on the board. I ordered some of the buttons from eBay and soldered one in place and it works perfectly. If you're confident enough with a soldering iron, I highly recommend giving it a go. Just search on eBay for a right-angle momentary tactile push button switch, 6mm x 6mm x 10mm. Just be aware that you'll have to cut a small notch into the front shell.

Mega EverDrive / Shortcuts to ROMs on Everdrive?
« on: March 29, 2019, 05:55 PM »
I like having my ROM collection in one big folder, A-Z. But to make things easier to find and more organised, I want to make some folders for genres. Is it possible to put shortcuts in the genre folders instead of doubling-up on ROM files? Thanks in advance.

Mega EverDrive / Re: "Random game" only plays SMS games? X3

Yes, they are all .md format. That makes sense as when I removed the SMS games, the "select random game" just gave me a blank screen.
Is batch-renaming them all to .gen likely to break any of the files? Thank you guys.

edit: Thanks guys, that worked perfectly. Now to find some hidden gems :)

I get a blank screen every time. Doesn't make any sense. Anyone else having this problem?

Mega EverDrive / Re: Mega Everdrive v5 SMS Pause Button Issue

Hi rabite890,

Did this get resolved? I suspect the fault is a loose cartridge slot, causing it to crash your game when you touch the cartridge.
You can actually fix it quite easily. Have a look at this video. Hope it helps.
