Another bsod issue...
« on: March 25, 2013, 05:34 AM »
I ordered a few of the everdrives last week, I'm happy with them all, they are great products.

My TG16 however is acting strange.  The only mod I've ever done with it was for composite a/v and that's it.  Of the games I own and the T-ED-

Work: Keith Courage, Victory Run, Legendary Axe, Alien Crush, Bonk's Adventure
Don't work: Splatterhouse, Bonk's Revenge, T-ED

The cards that don't work give me a blue screen.  The LED on the T-ED lights up for a second and shuts off, it's been this way since I received it.

The switch on the T-ED is on TG16, and I've tried cleaning the card slot with alcohol/Deox-IT multiple times.  I've also resoldered the cart pins onto the board.

I have a feeling I'll eventually end up replacing the TG16.  Is there anything else that could be the problem?  Is it possible the T-ED and the two cards I have are bad, or is it more likely the console?

possoble reasons: bad roms, rom files fragmentation, incompability with sd card, something wrong with your system, something wrong with your cart

I formatted a different msdhc card known to work with other everdrives, and copied the roms (from the no-intro set).  Still a blue screen.

I've narrowed it down to the system and the cart itself.  Since I don't know anybody with a TG16 around here, I'll have to get a new system to test either anyway.

It turned out to be the system.  It must be allergic to certain cards.  I don't know much about the internal structure of the TG16, but there must be something about it that treats some cards differently than others.

All of the cards work in my new (seemingly identical) system.

You really ought to get the Core Grafx instead of a US Turbo.

An advantage of the Turbo Everdrive is that you can finally play US roms on the Japanese console without modification.

After using the Core Grafx I'm getting rid of my Turbo ASAP.

The Core Grafx is also less than half the size.

I heard that all PCEs and TG16s suffer from bad caps at some point. Maybe that has something to do with the performance.

Or it could be because you modded the AV on the TG16... EDs don't work well on modded systems according to the manufacturer.
