Purple screen woes.
« on: May 12, 2018, 11:08 AM »
Hey, all. Here's my situation. I just received my (unmodded) Core Grafx console from Japan. I popped in the brand new Turbo Everdrive that also just arrived and... solid pink/purple. Powering on the system with nothing inserted produces the same result. Never anything different so far, not even an error message.

More details:

1. Using aftermarket power supply (9V, 850MA) and component A/V cables indicated for a model 1 Genesis. I was told that these should be compatible.

2. 32 GB FAT32 formatted Sandisk micro SD containing the most current OS and a full set of US/JP no-intro roms. Pretty sure I have it set up correctly, as I have prior experience with Game Boy and N64 EDs.

3. Region switch is set to PCE. Tried toggling it several times to no effect.

4. I don't have any other, real HuCards to test. The point of the ED was to never need to buy any. ;)

5. I ran some Windex-wetted Q-tips along the system contacts. Little to no visible dirt was removed. I don't have the bit needed to open the console shell properly and inspect it further. Even if I did, I doubt I know enough about electronics to spot a problem with the hardware on sight.

6. Starting the console with controller buttons held down doesn't seem to accomplish anything.

7. The red light on the ED does flash briefly each time power is switched on and whenever it's pressed manually.

Kind of at a loss here. Any ideas? Thanks!

Update: Took it to a local game store. Tried it with an official PCE HuCard and no change. Also tried a first party Genesis 1 power supply. Again, no change. Snapped some pictures of the guts, too, though it all looked pretty clean and nothing stood out:

Is your power supply center negative?

It is. Should it be?

Yes, it should be. That means your PCE is faulty unfortunately.

Right you are. 100% confimed just now by trying the ED in another Core Grafx. Works perfectly. Thanks for the help.

Feel free to close this one, moderators. Not an ED issue at all.
