PAL/NTSC Switch
« on: February 26, 2017, 01:19 AM »
I just received my Everdrive64 cart today from Stoneage gamer. I saw that in the SDCard slot there’s a switch for PAL/NTSC. When I flipped the switch to NTSC the cart does not boot as I get a black screen. If I put the cart in PAL mode it boots but when I press start to do some kind of test it said my TV is in PAL mode?

If I leave this switch on PAL would I still be able to play my USA ROMS and what is the side affects?

Thanks.

I think the switch is made for toggling which region your console is from. For instance if you're playing on a PAL console you would slide the switch to PAL and slide to NTSC if you are playing on a NTSC console. You can play NTSC-U and NTSC-J consoles on your PAL console with Everdrive 64 since it's region free.

Hmm so it sounds like the cart I have is defective? Since I run the ROM test it said my TV mode is PAL.

Does the games work when you start them? If your TV is a PAL TV, the Everdrive will recognize it as one.

The ROMS appears to work OK. I'm from the USA and I'm almost positive this is a NTSC TV since I bought and live in the USA. My concerns are what would be the side affects if I leave the switch in PAL mode?

Nothing should happen. It is possible that it was a typo from stonagegamer where it reads PAL should have read NTSC and vice versa. Is your console a PAL console? You can check this by looking at the bottom of the console on a sticker you will find NUS00X (some number in the place of X followed by EUR or USA or something.)

It's a USA n64 since the bottom say NUS-001 (USA)

That's odd. My only guess is that it could be a typo on the cartridge then. You could check their webpage and see if they have posted any pictures of the Everdrive you bought and see if they included pictures of where the region switch is. It should show the correct side to slide to PAL and NTSC. Compare that with your own cart and see if it matches?

Welp mystery solved. I used the Ultra CICii ROM test and it said my TV is in PAL mode. I opened up the cart and the switch is in fact in the NTSC position.

the n64 doesn't know what kind of tv is connected at all.
if your ultracic ii testrom shows PAL on an ntsc n64, press 'Z' -> 'Options' and check if your 'Game Mode' is manually set to 'PAL' and change it back to 'Default'.
