Off Topic / Re: Atari 8bit cartridge
« on: October 14, 2021, 05:48 AM »
Wondering if there's interest in an Everdrive for the Atari 8 bit systems?  I have an 800XL and would love to pile on all cart games, etc... on an everdrive cart.

p.s. New here, loving my everdrive carts! :D

One already exists for the Atari2600, its called the Harmony Cart

So though a RetroTINK converter would probably work with your TV, I don't know if there is a chance that it won't.

Depends on the reason why the TV doesn't support the signal. As a very fast digitizer and linedoubler device, the RT2X Pro is unable to make a perfect compliant signal out of an off-spec signal. So there is definitely a chance it won't make much of a difference. It helps, but there's no guarantee.

Mike Chi provides a manual for the RT2X Pro where he mentions :
"Q: Some consoles work but other consoles show a black screen on the TV"
"A: Retro-consoles deviate from standard video refresh rates and timing. The 2X is a low-latency line doubler and thus, does not alter these off-spec timings. It is likely your TV does not like the output rate of a specific console. Try another TV or monitor."

Linedoublers like the RT2X Pro or the OSSC are excellent products, but they rely heavily on the tolerance the TVs have for the signals. Any device with a framebuffer should be safer, yet not mandatory, at the expense of some lag.

So pseudo related to this I have a Collectorvision Phoenix for playing ColecoVision games but their ColecoVision core is fairly true to the original system which has a weird pixel clock that my Samsung Q70 doesn't like, but I have my OSSC plugged into the same HDMI switch as the Phoenix and if I turn on just the OSSC with no signal to it then turn on the Phoenix the TV will recognize it and let me use it. New TV's and old console protocols can be strange.

EverDrive N8 / Re: Brand new N8 Pro Famicom issue
« on: September 26, 2021, 06:39 PM »
I have an AV Famicom that has the NESRGB mod. Regular Famicom cartridges work fine. The regular N8 Everdrive also works fine. The N8 Pro cartridge, however, does NOT work at all on my modded system. It works great on my other unmodded Famicom systems though.

I read that there were issues with earlier revisions, particularly those from Stone Age Gamer, which is where mine was from. It was long past whatever warranty period there is, so I dropped almost $200 for a new N8 Pro from Amazon, which arrived today. This doesn't work either.

Given how popular the NESRGB mod is, this cartridge should be compatible, especially if the regular N8 Everdrive is compatible. How can this problem be solved?

I seem to remember something about a firmware update for one of the RGB mods and that fixed the issue, but since I don't have one myself I can't remember the details.

Just press start on the Brawler64 before you start the system. I have had no issues with my unit with autoloading the last game played.

EverDrive GG / Re: Everdrive GG X7 with BennVenn LCD
« on: August 30, 2021, 04:11 PM »
I have two Game Gears.  Both have been recapped, but one has the USB C power board, with a BennVenn LCD kit professionally installed.  The one with the the BennVenn Kit is also in a new RetroSix case.  Anyway...the BennVenn GG plays regular carts superbly, but when I insert and go to play with the X7, I get all kinds of random screen noise.  I place the X7 in the other GG and it works like a charm.  It seems to me that there is some shielding that needs to be done, but not certain why/where.  Have any of you tried this same configuration and experienced any issues?  It would be a real shame to not be able to use the X7 on the one with the awesome BennVenn screen.

Noise through the speakers? If it is noise from the speakers are you set to the maximum brightness on the wheel? My GG's that are getting the BennVenn Kit are still at the installers but he mentioned that he was getting noise through the speakers like a hum/whine when the brightness wasn't fully maxed out on the wheel.

Hi guys,

im new here (hi everyone  :))

I am completely new to everdrives but have just bought the x6 as its seems entry level and a good way to see if i want to go all out on the FXPAK PRO down the line.

anyway, i've set up the everdrive but i have a question. in order to use the extra chip support, do you have to manually add the bios yourself?

i apologise if this is an obvious question or its been asked a tonne of times already!

thanks :)

If it works similar to the old versions yes you need to add the different bios for the chips yourself.

Having a bit of a canoodle. It either says "no FAT" or it says "GBSYS" not detected". When I tried to load it using the oldest iteration of the SYS file and putting nothing else on it, it was stuck in Loading. When I put game files on it, it displayed F6 Fat Not Found again. Not sure what I can do. Only have the one SD card, and it works fine with everything else that I own. Any suggestions?

What size of SD card are you using? Is it formatted to FAT32?

"Boarder" kept bothering me to.

Anyway Richarddragon, the switch isn't hidden by the label, it's inside the plastic shell on the X-series of the EDGB. If you don't have the X-series there is no switch to press. No one ever said anything about any labels except you. You keep ignoring half of what people say and makes up your own version of that half. You should learn to "read from the book".

I likely have both the X series and the older one, If one is transparent and one is black then yeah that's likely the way to tell which version is which as for border being misspelled as boarder the spell checker has no red line when you type in "Boarder" just try it in the message and it doesn't refer it as incorrectly spelt... it's kind of like how I usually say releace instead of release of course the latter name has a red line under it so I right click and change it to the correct word.

That's because "boarder" and "border" are both real words but with significantly different meanings.

All variations of SNES/SFC had a cartridge lock.
The US carts did indeed have a different lock slot, it's sloping and designed to slide the lock backward and switch the power off if you are dumb enough to pull the cart out without powering down first.
Does the NA SNES lock even work with the NA carts that doesn't have a horizontal slit in front?

Not really, from what I have read the ramp design of the cart allows the SNES lock to go out and then if someone tries to pull the cartridge out the ramp pushes the lock back, effectively shutting off the SNES

I've never seen a PAL or Japanese SNES without the cartridge lock, but maybe they do exist, or someone have removed it from yours. I don't know about the American SNES as I've never seen one in person and they have a different cartridge case. You see the long slit in front of Japanese/PAL cartridges? That's where it goes in to lock it in place when you switch on the power. You can disconnect the AC adapter from your SNES and look into the cartridge slot as you slide on the power switch on and you should see a plastic thing sliding in together with the switch if the locking is there.

I used to think the eject button was the only way to pull out a cartridge, but it's a separate mechanism from the lock mechanism.

They actually changed the NA cart design at one point. I think it was because too many people were trying to pull the cartridge out without using the eject button.

I was wanting to put my request in for the Mega ED to have more robust options for all of the consoles it supports.

Currently Mega Everdrive supports the most robust feature set such as for the Mega Drive such save states and cheats but they only work for the Mega Drive
They should also be developed for the other consoles the cart supports such as the 32x, Master System and Sega CD

Can we expect such features in future?

32x I think Krikzz said was impossible. I thought Master System save states and ingame menu were implemented on the Pro and then Sega CD I thought Krikzz indicated it might be possible in the future, but I might be wrong.

Short answer No

Hyperkin Retron 5 / Retron sq are Emulator

Shouldn't the Ezflash Definitive edition work since it will act like a retail cart?

Well that is assuming you have something to set the game on it I guess.

I would also use exFAT for the formatting of the SD card as it appears to work better with CD games then FAT32

WOO BEBE it does!!! Not let me change BIOS but far much better

..I'm going to be the only one getting the Pro only to have SMS states xP and to have secondary setup since 32x outrights damns SMS compatibility unfortunate, n try me first M1 Genesis

It is well document and very upfront that SMS will not work when a 32x is attached.

I actually went with two different setups so I didn't have to remove my 32x....although I will admit I don't play much 32x
