Brilliant - another classic Japanese game made fully playable for us non-Japanese speakers!

Many thanks indeed to both you and SharkSnack for all of your hard work and effort.

Very excited to see this get finished!! Hopefully soon?

How about today?

https://www.romhacking.net/translations/6293/

Here is a patcher for the patch:

https://www.mediafire.com/file/thtypgr3aqnvg9r/PatchShiren_-_Shiren_2_Oni_Invasion%2521_Shiren_Castle%2521_%2528English_Translation_v1.0%2529.7z/file

If you extract the patcher and the patch into the same folder and drop any Shiren rom on the ShirenPatcher file, it will create a patched ROM for you.

I'll update the main post and maybe throw in another post or two here in the near future.  We were tentatively planning on releasing tomorrow on the 21st anniversary, but today works too :)  I just happen to be out and about for most of today.

EverDrive N8 / Re: Brand new N8 Pro Famicom issue
« Last post by zaphro72 on September 26, 2021, 06:39 PM »
I have an AV Famicom that has the NESRGB mod. Regular Famicom cartridges work fine. The regular N8 Everdrive also works fine. The N8 Pro cartridge, however, does NOT work at all on my modded system. It works great on my other unmodded Famicom systems though.

I read that there were issues with earlier revisions, particularly those from Stone Age Gamer, which is where mine was from. It was long past whatever warranty period there is, so I dropped almost $200 for a new N8 Pro from Amazon, which arrived today. This doesn't work either.

Given how popular the NESRGB mod is, this cartridge should be compatible, especially if the regular N8 Everdrive is compatible. How can this problem be solved?

I seem to remember something about a firmware update for one of the RGB mods and that fixed the issue, but since I don't have one myself I can't remember the details.

Mega EverDrive / Re: Final Fight Japan Intro Issue MD Everdrive Pro

It seems that the MegaSD had the same issue and was fixed in Firmware 1.02 (Fix Final fight freezing randomly and on continue screen) Maybe it's a common FPGA issue?

FXPAK (SD2SNES) / FXPak Pro Super NT Black Screen
« Last post by ARZK on September 25, 2021, 10:30 PM »
Hi,

I know this was posted before, but I did not find any solution. Problem is, when I put in the cart (without SD card) into my Super NT the screens stays black. There is no error that I do not have inserted any SD card. I tried to so far:
- removed controllers
- firmware 5.0
- jailbreak firmware 7.0
- Option "Launch System Timings"
- Start directly from cart
- Boot sequence delay 0s

I also tried it wih SD card (FAT32 formatted with sd2snes folder in root), but no change. Diagnostics tool also did not work.

Is it possible, that my FXPak is broken? Or does it not contain any firmware by default and my SD cart is not working? Generally it is working, because I used it to update the NT firmware with an adapter.

That sounds like piracy though.

And you think that's stopped people in the past?

I think the messed up level models you see with Super Mario 32 could be caused by the camera's far value being a negative number: https://hack64.net/wiki/doku.php?id=super_mario_64:console_compatibility#warping_triangles

I would give this a try to see if it helps:
Find all: 0A 01 00 2D 00 64 96 96 80
Replace with: 0A 01 00 2D 00 64 7F 7F 80

EverDrive 64 / Re: Will NTSC N64 games on EverDrive 64 allow a PAL N64 to output 60Hz?
« Last post by nuu on September 25, 2021, 12:28 PM »
Most consoles are slightly off spec and refresh rate is seldom constant. NTSC SNES for example has about 60.0988Hz instead of the NTSC standard 59.7275Hz. Atari 2600 and PC-Engine have a very flexible video signal and are probably nightmares for modern scalers, but CRT TVs are not picky.

Although a PAL N64 can output any refresh rate, it will always use PAL color encoding, so your TV must support PAL60 (very common among PAL TVs).
The same is true on NTSC N64 where playing a PAL game usually results in an NTSC50 signal (which most TVs barf on).

There is also a 2% timing difference when playing on the wrong N64 region (NTSC or PAL, there are only 2 regions in the case of N64 hardware). Some games has audible sound stuttering due to this, and speedrunning is not to even think about as the game runs slightly faster or slower. You need either a mod or two N64 systems to play both regions 100% correctly.
