EverDrive N8 / Re: Everdrive N8 - Dip Switches on NWC

Mapper 99 also has dipswitch support? That one's a bit different since it's specifically for arcade hardware, though.

No special guide about downgrading AVS firmware. It's done the same way as upgrading using the scoreboard program. Firmware can be degraded using the older firmware files and using the same process used to upgrade. Firmware can be upgraded back to a later version again too.

I'm not sure whether he intends on releasing anymore updates to the original N8, since the recent updates have been degrading the performance of the NES/Famicom during OS operation.

Was this something mentioned on Twitter?

Oh ok. I understand and agree.

Nothing of this has anything to do with the Everdrive though.

Not helping. Compatibility with accessories has nothing to do with the Everdrive? Everdrive itself can play GB, SGB, and GBC games, so it's worth mentioning that some games that can be played on the Everdrive GB won't work on the SGB2.

It works with SGB2, but, as with the original SGB, GBC Only games don't work and the backwards compatible GBC games will use the GB or SGB palette. Some games do have a different border on SGB2, though. Tetris DX is one of these, if I remember correctly.

I managed to get Galaxian to work without the overdump on the Pro, but with an older ROM from the No Intro set. Header needed to be changed to 16k PRG and 8k CHR with the newer set I used.

Which OS? I didn't have an issue with an unpatched Monster World last few times I checked, but I didn't check 3.13. I heard NBA Jam is buggy on the actual cart, though I did get it to save in an earlier OS (3.05, if I remember correctly).

SMS or GG Chase HQ? Not sure if it makes a difference for GG, but the SMS version doesn't run properly in 60 Hz.

Thanks for the info. Good to hear that Gunstar and Shining Force work. I was under the mistaken impression that the carts were already out.

Did the JB Nt mini already have a 2600 core? I know it had a 7800 core.

Is there a way to fix this issue by editing the header of the roms? I'm under the impression that some roms are mislabeled and aren't detected as their proper save type by the everdrive X7.

Telling from the posts in the Everdrive GG forums, it sounds like Gunstar Heroes doesn't work and Shining Force still doesn't save.

Is there any reason to play the FDS version over the cart version?

The N8 Pro I ordered arrived. Thanks for the hard work! It even runs rev A of Galaxian, which doesn't even run on emulators due to an 8k PRG-ROM.

There are three ways to run Galaxian.  The first is to run the overdumped ROM, which is what the Famicom sees anyway.  The second is to run a check against a 16KiB file and if the checksum or hash matches that of Galaxian Rev. 0 or Rev. A, then you can run it.  The third, and the best way, is to use the NES 2.0 Exponent x Multiplier method to express the PRG-ROM or CHR-ROM size if it cannot be accurately expressed in 16KiB or 8KiB increments, respectively.

Yeah, I previously had to use an overdump from goodsets, but the Pro supports the rev A no intro ROM directly.

Must be a hash check unless your Galaxian ROM has a proper NES 2.0 header.   :(  Does a non Rev-A ROM also work without the overdump?

I haven't tried a non Rev-A without the overdump yet. I did find something interesting when trying newer no-intro roms (both Rev A and non rev A). They seem to be using the exponent x multiplier trick, but don't work in the everdrive pro.

Edit: I changed the header to 1.0 with the same data as the earlier header (16k PRG-ROM, 8k CHR-ROM) and it Non-Rev A no-intro ROM works.
