For what reason? As it's already stated by ikari_01: there's not enough bus bandwidth on the SNES cart slot to stream any more than the ultra low res 4 color picture data of the Super Game Boy.
The NES picture exceeds this bandwidth limitation by a factor of 10. So even if it may be possible to recreate the whole NES inside the Cyclone IV of the SD2SNES Pro, there would be no way to stream the picture data from the SD2SNES Pro to the SNES.

I heard him saying that too in his last SD2SNES Pro video... but never heard or read about it somewhere else. But it could easily have happened - there are lots of scammers on all of the big internet sale platforms.

But the story is definitely unrelated to the problem described in this very thread since there's no way the SD2SNES firmware would work on any Super Everdrive. Different FPGA... different design - no chance to make it work.

Strange - previous pcb revisions always had full cutouts on the top left and right corners:



So they did fit into a normal US style shell.

But Rev. J didn't have them anymore:



... just some small cutouts for the latches. So it seems like it will only fit into a JP/EU style shell!?!?

The bus bandwidth from the cart slot is just enough to stream the Super GameBoy picture to the SNES (and it's already a tight fit). The data provided by a higher resolution and/or color depth wouldn't fit at all - at least not without some heavy trickery (which has its limitations too).

also, just curious, why can it be easily firmware upgaded to the 1.8 firmware (with locked status now. i think), but cannot just flash to other ones............-_- :'(

There is probably NO EASY solution. You may have to (re)program the bootloader - which is described here:

I don't really care too much about an SGB implementation, though; that's what my SGB and ED GB X3 is for.

Yeah but you can't play Game Boy Color games with that setup.
As 'ikari_01' said in his interview with 'SmokeMonster': the bus bandwidth is just enough for the SGB picture. So there would be some experimental trickery needed for streaming the color picture of a FPGA GBC to the SNES.

You're absolutely right. I forgot one revision and mixed up Rev. E1 -> E2 (new voltage regulator, because the old one wasn't available anymore) with Rev. E2 -> F (interference pattern on 1-Chip SNES output eliminated).

If it's just a warning, downgrading should be possible. But it's obviously a brick/lock... well... i already said what i had to say about that ;) .

If you don't have any warranty from the shop/seller anymore and therefore can't return your faulty SD2SNES -> maybe you have a friend or family member with decent soldering skills who will help you in resoldering all the chips pins. If you don't have someone for the soldering you'll (sadly) have to look for a working new or 2nd hand SD2SNES...

There shouldn't be any differences in functionality between different board revisions (except when it comes to the volume for MSU1 audio output)... which means: KSS should run the same way on a Rev. E1 board as it runs on a Rev. J board.

The board revisions don't even differ THAT much in terms of their layout - just some not longer available parts were replaced from Rev. E1 to Rev. F (with technically identical ones)... a hardware audio boost for MSU1 audio was introduced with Rev. G... the audio boost was replaced with a MSU1 audio normalizer via opamp with Rev. H... and from Rev. I to J the sd card slot and mini USB jack were replaced with a micro sd card slot and a micro USB jack. Those were the major changes - so: nothing related to game compatibility at all. Even ikari_01 writes in the FAQ part of his SD2SNES page:

Probably the SA-1 core makes use of the SRAM too - i don't know. I only know for sure: the SuperFX core does. Just test some other SA-1 games... and maybe some SuperFX games. If all of them refuse to work properly (while every other game does) it's most likely the very same SRAM problem.

Cold solder joints are fairly hard to see with lead free solder. Someone on another forum had a similar problem:

Even though the RAM1 chip looked decently soldered he did resolder all its pins... and that did the trick.

Probably: none. It's like locking the door to a room and casting the keyhole with concrete afterwards... so you can't unlock the door. The only way to access the room would be via the window (which is the JTAG method) or by removing/replacing the whole door (which in this case means: replacing the FPGA - but you'll have to programm the bootloader in this case too).

But it's still a mystery to me, where inside the SD2SNES the whole 1.8.0 firmware was permanently flashed to - into the FPGAs own flash memory? Would it be big enough?

This is the RAM1 chip (a CY62148EV30LL-45ZSXI SRAM memory IC):



The test firmware failing the RAM1 test means: there may be a cold solder joint on the chip itself or on one of its connections directly on the FPGA... OR the chip is broken. You may want to try to reflow/resolder its pins/connections or (if that doesn't fix it) replace the whole chip.

Afaik the RAM1 memory is only used for the GSU1/SuperFX enhancement chip core. So... aside from that: other games (probably) will work just fine.
