EverDrive N8 / USB Tool on GNU/Linux?
« on: April 26, 2016, 02:16 AM »
I just soldered a mini USB port on my ED and the FT245RL is on the way from China. Will the USB tool work with Mono, or does it need to be recoded entirely to work on GNU/Linux? Any special drivers I need other than the FTDI library from my repo (on Debian)?

Also, the USB cable fits perfectly in my front loader NES with the cartridge pushed down, so I don't know why the page says it will only work on a toploader.

EverDrive N8 / VRC6 Timing too fast.
« on: April 14, 2016, 07:31 AM »
NOTE: Using Slamy's modified mapper 100_75 set at Hi mixing level and an NES with a variable resistor at pins 3+9.

I recorded Castlevania 3 - Beginning to compare the volume levels to a recording of a real cart through an AV Famicom that I found online. While I think I got the volume right, I have noticed that the game plays music a bit faster on the EverDrive. Is the timing off on the FPGA implementation?

EverDrive N8 / NSF Player?
« on: March 20, 2016, 08:22 AM »
Are there plans to bring an NSF player to the ED N8? The PowerPak has one already, and the source code is available here if that would help: http://3dscapture.com/NES/powerpak_nsf_src.zip

EverDrive N8 / Thinking of buying an N8...
« on: March 06, 2016, 05:23 AM »
I'd like to know a few things first.

1) How accurate are the currently implemented mappers/FDS games compared to real hardware? I heard the expansion audio (VRC6 specifically) is a bit quiet compared to an actual cartridge. I already modded my NES with a 56 kOhm resistor.

2) I have also heard that the save state mappers can cause issues on some NES systems. I have a Rev. G PPU and CPU. Will I have any issues?

3) Will the mappers/OS ever be open source so the community can improve upon them easily?

4) Is the N8 still receiving mapper updates/new mappers? NesDev Wiki tells me that the MMC5, FME-7, and VRC7 mappers do not support expansion audio, for example.

5) Are there any game incompatibilities with existing mappers besides quiet or missing expansion audio? This kind of goes along with my accuracy question.

I would really like to use alt64 for gblite, GB64, better GS support, etc., but whenever I try to run either that or OS 1.29, I just get a black screen. OS 2.04-2.11 all work just fine.

A black screen also happens when I try to launch alt64 or OS 1.29 from the OS 2.11 menu.

I would really like to solve this issue. I can't find other people with the same issue as I am having.

The reason I have even mentioning OS 1.29 is that in the source code for alt64 v0186, in everdrive.h, the version number listed is 1.29. I don't know if this applies for v1823 because I cannot find the source code.

My problem with GB64 is when I run it, it doesn't recognize the SD card, so it doesn't show borders and when it finishes dumping, it says the file already exists. Related issue maybe? It's possible that only OS 2.xx can access the SD card for some reason, and no "games" can.
