FXPAK (SD2SNES) / SD2SNES on the verge of death?
« on: October 04, 2019, 04:05 AM »
So, okay, currently using a Super NT on latest firmware, version 4.9 I think. Well, so I turn on the console, and  up till this point, the SD2SNES has been running flawlessly, but not today, all I get is a black screen, so I turned the console off, reseated the cart and SD card, and it turned on fine. But this time, it asks me to enter the time/date, something that it hasn't done in all the time I owned it. Okay, I thought, nothing to be worried about, so I play a game, then I go back to the Super NT menu, load Super Turrican 2 then the SD2SNES again. Well, this time, it asks me to enter the date for a second time, I'm thinking the SRAM batter is either dying or the cart itself is dying. I mean, yes, I did get secondhand from a friend, at a discount, but damn, I don't know what it means in all honesty.  :'(

Edit: May be a battery that needs to be replaced but since I don't want to spend money for that or a soldering iron, ugh.

So this is an odd issue, see, I'm using the re-translated version of Breath of Fire 2 (let's be honest, the original version is a garbage heap in the translation department, and the new HUD looks pretty sleek), the issue is that the top line of the HUD is half missing, and the half that does remain, flickers constantly in battle. I don't know exactly what the ROM patch does to the game, or how it affects how the resolution is affected, maybe it's some kine of pseudo hi-res going on, not sure. But it's quite distracting, and looks quite abnormal.

Firmware: 1.8.0 sa1 revision 6 beta
Super NT: firmware version 4.5

Earlier versions of the SD2SNES firmware yield the same results.

Normally, there should be a black line going across the entire HUD, but it's missing about half of it. I highlighted the problem in the attached image:

I can't seem to reproduce this on Snes9x 1.55, which is aimed at fairly high accuracy, so I'm not sure what's going on. Any insight is appreciated, thank you.

Edit: I stand corrected, that black line isn't supposed to be there at all, running it on Snes9x 1.55 and well, it's supposed to look like this:

Either way, something is amiss and I hope it's not a serious issue, but again, it is distracting on the screen.

FXPAK (SD2SNES) / Earthbound random flickering on SD2SNES 0.1.7e
« on: March 12, 2018, 06:31 AM »
I'm having issues with the SD2SNES and Earthbound. Sometimes, the screen will flicker/twitch when scrolling text at random; no other games do this.  Current SDSNES firmware is 0.1.7e, all files and folders are set up correctly.

Currently running it on an Analogue Super NT, using firmware 4.4.

It's hard to describe, but essentially, it will randomly flicker/shake similar to how a video signal looks when there's a loose connection. I unplugged and plugged the HDMI cable back in and it still occurs. Oddly enough, testing various games like Earthworm Jim 2, Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger don't exhibit this anomaly, Earthbound seems to be the only game to do it. I don't know if it's the firmware itself, a bad ROM dump, or what, but it is distracting and even painful to my eyes to play with the random flickering. It happens typically only in battle when there's scrolling text and when the battle is finished.

Edit: As soon as I can manage to record a video, I will post it here.
