redguy, I have an image here of Star Fox running on my rgb 1chip-03.

Does the arwing look like this for you too? The checkerboard patterns on its wings? It comes and goes, I've noticed it on both your firmwares. Just wanted to double check and see if this is due from the infancy of the firmware, and not my actual hardware.

Hi!

For possibly getting more memory for the SuperFX chip, have you thought about sharing the memory between the various cartridge-only chips that the SD2SNES implements?

It's not necessary: The firmware consists of several FPGA bitfiles - depending on the requested game it will reconfigure the FPGA with the corresponding bitfile. There are dedicated bitfiles for DSPx+BS-X+S-RTC, Cx4, OBC1, and now GSU thanks to RedGuy. So each of these cores already has the entire FPGA's resources available to itself.

Been having a blast as well with this! I'm using an ntsc 1chip-03. I wasn't able to have Yoshi's Island save though. I even did the reset of the snes, and when I rebooted I had no save files?

Turns out it was a renaming issue with the .sfc file. Got a bunch of MSU-1's working now, pretty incredible stuff! :-)

I cannot place a number on how many times I've watched redguy's YouTube video, of StarFox running on the SD2SNES. Very, very exciting developments! I code with 6502 ASM, makes me wish I knew how to write for the SNES, or another language, cause I'd love to contribute to this! I'll keep refreshing this thread per usual, for further reports!

Hey I just saw this post, and the same thing just happened to me. I played through Chill Penguin. Defeated him, music plays, I teleport away, screen fades to black, then nothing.

I'm using a No-Intro romset.

I'll try the patch on the v1.1 version of MMX, and report back.

EDIT: Confirmed, v1.1 or Rev 1 of Megaman X is what needs to be patched. As soon as I defeated Chill Penguin it went right to the "You Got" weapon screen. :-)

I believe to have ontained a pre-patched version of Contra 3 from EP. When I load the .sfc file, it's all the same cartridge sounds, I do not notice anything different in CD quality sound, different soundtrack?

This is my folder structure in the ROOT directory

After a lot of trial and error, I figured it out. Turns out the 3 capacitors surrounding the Z80 chip, we're the wrong voltage. Idk what made me think to examine there other than the Z80 is what runs the master system. So I swapped the capacitors and I have master system mode back. The BIOS loading works, and the FM audio works too. :-)

It didn't cross my mind to report about the mod, because my VA2 system was modified, and the everdrive ran Master System games on it. But with my VA6, I took it a step further with heavily disconnecting the Sony cxa chip. So it wasn't until today that I found information, of exactly how the Genesis boots into Master System mode. So that's when I discovered that the Sony cxa chip isn't only for visuals, it also supplies power to boot the Genesis into Master System mode.

I think I may know my issue, I did a lot of research this morning. To make a long story short, I believe it deals with the Sony CXA chip. One of the Genesis pins goes to the VDP, and then from there goes to what is known as Vcc, on the Sony CXA. I looked up the Vcc function, and it supplies power. I think in my quest for no jailbars, I clipped the Vcc pin.

I'll check it out when I can, but I have a strong feeling after everything I've searched, that that's the culprit.

Thank you for all the replies. So I tried using the "GOODSMS v3.20" instead of my no-intro set. My VA6 still wouldn't play them,  BUT, my VA7 does.... So something must've happened to my VA6 during my modifications.

I'm not sure where to go for the technical questions, as to what could cause the Genesis not to run master system games? I've done the following mods.

1: Bypassed original Sony CXA video chip, with an RGB bypass board, which also has csync running through it.

2: Entire system was recapped with new capacitors from Console5.

3: Nano motherboard installed to allow hard reset of system from controller.

I actually had my MD_X7 repaired, and got it back a few days ago. I even mentioned in the letter I sent there may be issues with sms playback. But I received no notification back that if there was any sms issue with that cart.

I know it wouldn't have to do with my RGB Bypass Board install, because I still get the same result on my stock VA7 TMSS. My VA6, I've completely bypassed the Sony CXA chip from receiving/outputting R,G,B,CSync, my system is strictly using EUROSCART. And again, my stock VA7 still doesn't allow sms usage.

Could it be that it's because I'm using the sms "no-intro" romset?

Is there a hardware mod to fix this issue within the Genesis?

Are there Genesis Model 1's that do not possess backwards compatibility? My X7 will not run ANY master system roms. It used to on my old VA2.

I'm starting to wonder if it's because of the TMSS? Because I own a VA6, and a VA7, both with TMSS, and I'm unable to load any master system games.

My X7 loads Genesis & 32x games fine. (And no I'm not trying to run sms with the 32x connected)

I can't get a straight answer on this from anyone, but I'm starting to draw my own conclusion that systems with the TMSS do not allow playback of master system games.

Can anyone please shed any light on this situation? Thank you!
