Everdrive 64 no longer writing saves
« on: July 22, 2020, 01:07 AM »
I have an ED64 that will no longer write or update save files. I've tried diddy kong racing and OoT, but whenever I delete existing/make a new file and then reset, the old file is back in its place.  The physical read-only switch on the side of the SD card is not locked, and I can save to the SD card on my SD2SNES just fine. I've updated mine to the latest 2.x drivers and I'm still having this issue. Any ideas are appreciated.

Check Diagnostics. Maybe the CR2032 battery is dead?

The 'Self Test' results are below, I don't see anything about a battery...

At least the Everdrive is working as intended. Try replacing the CR2032.

Given the results, that doesnt look like a V3/X7 to me (so no battery )(otherwise it would test the RTC. More likely an issue with pressing reset before turning off the console, or corrupt saves...
Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth...

I'm not saying this is the case here, but I had a similar issue with my v2.5 when I used Doshin's Debug option that crashed my cart/console.  After that I tried reformatting my card multiple times, but it still failed with saves.  Eventually I found the article about the special SD card formatting software and that finally fixed the issue.  I believe it's this one:

https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter/

Try pulling your data off the card and formatting it with the above app.  Then loading fresh ED64 OS files on there.  Finally load your save files and roms back onto the card.

If nothing fixes the problem, then of course it's possible that the SD card is just dying, in which case nothing can be done to fix it, you'll just have to throw it away and buy a new

If deleted saves keep on reappearing then that is a good sign that the card is on it's way out.
