Mario Kart 64 & Saving
« on: July 09, 2015, 02:36 AM »
I have the everdrive 64 v3. The device has been able to save my progress to the SD card, with games like Super Mario 64, & GoldenEye.

I've been playing Mario Kart 64, and to my knowledge from ages ago, this game saved your course times to the cartridge. I played the mushroom cup and won 1st place. I goto DATA, and it shows nothing, no saves information is there.

Is there a reason why Mario kart 64 is not saving to the SD card? Is there a specific save setting I need to set?

Please help! Thanks! :-)

I tried the (u) from my good set I have.

Are you saying this sounds like a rom issue?

It backups the save to SD when you change game yes, but the save should still be in memory if you play the same game again without changing games. Are you sure it's supposed to save lap times in GP mode? Try Time Trial and see if it saves your time. No-intro roms are recommended either way.

I'll try Time Trials later today. Yes I have been playing GP mode in mk64.

I've never messed with the save function of the ed64v3, due to Mario 64, and goldeneye, and the Zelda games, saving on their own properly.

I'll try to find the no-intro romset, id like the entire n64 library, I have it like that with my goodn64 set

Thanks for your help guys! Again ill try time trial.

I might be wrong on this but doesn't MK64 require a controller pak in order to save time trials?
SD2SNES, Everdrive N8 Famicom (transparent blue), Everdrive 64 v2.5 (transparent red), Everdrive GB X7, Everdrive GBA X5

Thats what I thought (for ghost mode) - I remember the same issue occurred on the Virtual Console version of MK64 because obviously you couldn't insert a controller pak.

So the solution is (if the above logic is correct) to simply have a controller pak inserted into the N64 controller  :)

Quote
The original release of this game on the Nintendo 64 used 123 pages of the Controller Pak to record Ghost Data, which would occupy all the space in the Controller Pak. However, later versions of the game used 121 pages on the Controller Pak, leaving only 2 pages free.

Because none of the available controllers have a Controller Pak Slot, it is impossible to record Ghost Data on the Virtual Console version of the game.

Controller paks are only required if you want to save your ghost, and if I remember correctly it can be used to backup best times.
Trophies/unlocks and times are saved to cart.
