SEGA Master System FM audio...
« on: February 22, 2016, 06:44 AM »
Would it be possible to implement FM audio for SEGA Master System?

It sounds so much better!!

I tried it first on my Wii, really pushed some games to a different level, Kenseiden's music is now Godly!

well, the answer will depend on which console you want to play FM sound.
the easy way is tu uses japanese mark III+FM unit or japanese Master System.
on a western Master System a hommade device from Australia exists but for the moment no answer from there about this.
or use a Power base Mini FM , homemade from Canada.

but directly from the everdrive, not actually.

I'm playing on a Genesis 1 with the sound coming out of the front headset port with a stereo AV out. I thought maybe the Genesis coupled with the Mega ED could throw FM sound.

(Obviously I'm using a Genesis since this is in the Mega Everdrive forum.)

This probably won't help you since you are using the Mega Everdrive, but there is a Power Base converter that supports FM sound.  But if you were using that, you would need a Master Everdrive on top of it rather than your Mega Everdrive.

I prefer using original Hardware, so I bought the homemade device from Australia and modded it into my Master System.  Definitely worth every penny.

One other thing, the FM sound on the Master System is still in Mono.  You might have already known that, but I only mention it because you said you were using the Stereo out on the Genesis.  If you end up using the Power Base Mini with FM sound, I'm pretty sure you will still be able to use the Stereo out for audio, but I just wanted to clarify that FM sound and Stereo sound are not the same thing.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Thank you, I knew it'd still be mono, still having both speakers playing the same channel is still better than having sound on one side.

I just wanted to give more details.

I'll stick to playing SMS games on my Wii then! ;)
