Everdrive N8 Famicom Disk System audio
« on: August 08, 2017, 01:09 PM »
Is the audio of Famicom Disk System games really as bad as it is made out to be? Does it matter if you have a Famicom Everdrive or a NES one?

Audio is not bad, it's even better, but ONLY if you hard wire the audio signal to work at all. Otherwise some channels are completely missing.

So the only way it sounds better is if you mod it? I guess a FDS stick would a better option than?

I don't know if it's only my everdrive or all of them, but fds audio is insanely unspeakably bad. I don't think that it's my copy of everdrive, because Gimmick (with custom mapper) and Akumajou Densetsu sounds great in other hands. I can make a comparison with real FDS if you want

edit: i would say that it's even better to play games without FDS extra sound channel

It's off-pitch, and no, it's not just your EverDrive.  It's an inaccuracy in the firmware.

If you could, please do.

I wonder if that's resolvable by a better FPGA core. If the VRC7 with the complete Yamaha chip is possible on the N8, I doubt that accurate FDS sound channels are so beyond reach. I imagine it's only a matter of having the right people working on it.
