Mega Everdrive X7 Save/Load
« on: September 28, 2017, 05:16 PM »
Hi,

First post here, just bought my 3rd Everdrive I have an old v2 ED64 a famicom N8 and never had a problem with either, so was happy to spend the money on the top of the range x7 for my megadrive, had it a little while now and as usual no problems at all :)
Just one question regarding save states on the x7, I can do Down+Start to get the menu up save the state and I'm away, but I'm curious as to how I can get it working as in this video Krikzz uploaded to youtube some years ago, the up/down+start would be awesome as I use those same button combo on my n8 to save/load... Wondering if this option is tucked away in a menu somewhere and I've not spotted it, or if it was only available on an older OS or device?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkXEr-uV9KE

Anyway, it would be great to figure it out, if it is not possible no big loss haha I'll soon get used to doing it the other way :)

Many thanks for reading!!!

Hi!

It's impossible.
You should use the in-game menu.

That was just a test preview of the feature.

Is it possible to use savestates with PAL games?
I tried saving in a couple PAL games, and every time the graphics gets corrupted and the game crashes when saving, same thing happens if i try to load the savestate later.
My Mega Drive is 50/60 hz modded, so i tried with a few NTSC games too, and there it works just fine.

Yes sure it's possible.
Likely the problem caused by your mod or wrong roms.
Do you have a PAL console to test it?

Yes, the console is a PAL Mega Drive model 2 that i 50/60 hz modded, so if anything the NTSC roms should fail =)
Console works fine, it can even run the "Titan - Overdrive 2" demo without any problems, and that demo should be the best stress test =D

This is what it looks like if i try to save in PAL version of Mega Turrican:

(tried with both an older firmware and the newest)

Sorry I forgot to mention: we guarantee the work of EverDrives only with unmodded consoles.

Do you have a PAL console without mods to test it with?

Some games are incompatible with the save state function.

Have anyone except me even tried to save state on a PAL machine with a PAL game?
Maby X7 doesn't even support save state on PAL machines? =)

Tested it now, and yes the pal version of that game worked with my Genesis 2 in pal mode! =)
Also tried Mega Turrican (ntsc version) with the Genesis switched to ntsc mode, and it fails there too just like the pal version in pal mode.
Guess i've been unlucky and only tried with pal games that aint supported.

I'm an owner of a Mega EverDrive X7 and I play everything in PAL as i'm a PAL 50Hz gamer and i'm proud of the fact that I ignore NTSC 60Hz, it's just not my preference for retro video games and I can assure you save states work on the X7 just fine on an unmodified PAL SEGA Mega Drive model 1 and Analogue Mega SG.

All PAL games running in 50Hz are compatible with save states, honestly the made up rumours you guys come out with is hilarious! Like ''Ohh it's 50Hz so it'll wreck my X7'' or ''PAL is not supported by the Mega EverDrive X7'' The cart is designed to fully support PAL and NTSC 50/60Hz, if there is an error it's usually down to the individual game you're trying to save on or your console is broken or unsupported if it's modded.

Pitfall The Mayan Adventure
Misadventures Of Flink
Shinobi III
Y's III The Wanderers
Lemmings
Zool

I know for a fact that these games listed above do not work properly with a Mega Everdrive X7, there is probably more out there but these are the one's I know about.
