But usually those newer models aren't renamed in such a way that it appears they have more features, when they actually don't.

They use new parts and might require different software. Reason enough to give them a new name as to not confuse customers (e.g. "use this file for ED64 before 2019, this file for ED64 after 2019") - a good opportunity to align the name to the current naming scheme.

Can't say. Planned hardware features did not fit in existing hardware design, so in near future i will release only x5 mini, in regular gba cart formfactor.
For X7 i should start all from scratch.

X5 mini likely will be released in end of 2019-begin 2020.

For x7 i planned at least isolated rtc and savestates

Yes, it's the only thing that makes since. Change the form factor and release all future versions in that form factor. Then put the 'extras' features in the x7 with whatever required form factor it needs, and charge more for the extras.

Also previously if there isn't a major upgrade, but simply part replacements/board revisions, I think he uses 'Pro' to distinguish it from earlier versions.

And it's going to be so awesome taking me way back to the Super Card SD games. To finally have a GBA Everdrive that wont get knocked with my pinkie fingers xDD

But joking aside I hope this version can incorporate PC Engine support, I mean to overcome the Super Card SD it would be awesome if it could just load roms on the go... I don't need to say SNES as it already runs them.
