Will Krikzz ever fix the X7 cheat system?
« on: December 02, 2019, 12:39 AM »
The fact that the X7's Game Genie implementation is largely broken (especially for GBC games) is well known.
It's been many months since the last firmware update and Krikzz has made no comment about this broken feature.

As this is a listed feature in the store, I feel it's pretty poor form that it still hasn't been fixed.

How reproduce the problem?

Choose a GBC game.
Enter a Game Genie code.
Most of the time it will do nothing.

The cheat thread has more info:

Is there any chance of gameshark code support for the GBC games?
The Game Genie was outdated by the time the GBC was released and there aren't many codes for it.

Isn't the gb/gbc codes support similar the one found on the Mega Drive/Genesis version?

Only codes that changes values in rom area will work with those.
Codes that changes ram will not.

Please correct me if wrong.

Maybe, DMG and GBC has RAM at the same place, but GBC can bank switch it for more RAM. So it should be possible to change the RAM the same way, but since the game can switch it out at any time, depending on when it's written, it may not always be the same RAM slot that is written to.

Man, you better describe the problem than just bumping this thread. You literally give zero description of problem, so how should i fix something what i can't see?
Your link pointed on old topic related to first generation EDGB where people share the codes, not sure what should i look at there. Just in case i tried few codes listed in topic and they all working, included one for Super Mario Land which was stated as not working.
So i going to ask again: How reproduce the problem? Exactly game? Exactly code?

Hi Krikzz

I am away from home for work at the moment, but one code I remember not working was this invincibility code for Shantae 182-88A-4CA
From gamehacking.

Did you try removing certain parts of the code from it as sometimes adding the whole code provided has negative effects on the roms, like shortening some of the values down?

I started playing GB again recently and I've been reminded that the cheat system can have difficulties. For me I recently tried the infinite health code for Metroid II which is 80F-6DD-7F6. When Samus get's hit she will ascend upwards infinitely but will not have infinite health.
I also wanted to mention or request rather that the game shark cheat engine be implemented. I would gladly donate for this to happen as many more effective codes are in game shark versions.
